Re-locating FP files from hard drive to CD - 11/6/2002 12:16:46
To speed up a lot of new files, I used explorer to move the site from CD to the hard drive - successfully. Now that all the changes are made, I cannot get the site to work again from the CD. This morning, I spent 3 hours copying all files and subdirectories straight from the working site on the Internet to the CD. When I open the CD in FP 2002 (Office XP version), I can get the site to appear and can open and save files. BUT I constantly and repeatedly get SERVER ERROR: CANNOT OPEN " D:\_vti_pvt\.structure,cnf,tmp" : NO SUCH FILE OR FOLDER (D is the CD) After clicking on OK, it usually goes ahead and loads. Every htm file I try to open, results in the same message 2 to 3 times, and then it opens and I can change it. When I try to save it -- same message several times and then it saves (sometimes). NEED HELP. Site is too big to leave on hard drive. www.IndianaMilitary.org/FreemanAAF/index.htm

I don' t understand the " Site is too big to leave on hard drive" comment, but - I have never been able to get any FP site to behave from a CD, ZIP Disk, etc. unless it was " PUBLISHED" to that media.

RE: Re-locating FP files from hard drive to CD - 11/6/2002 14:19:15
I am using a Dell laptop with only a 20 GHard Drive. I have 24 history sites, most grouped at www.IndianaMilitary.org. I can' t afford the space they all require to leave on the HD. I originally make the sites and store them on a CD. I use FP to modify data on the CD. I use WS_FTP to load up to the server. I only moved - using windows explorer - the site from the CD to the HD because I was making many changes and the exernal CDRW is very slow. Everything went well, until I finished and tried to put everything back on the CD for storage. Can' t do it. No matter what I try, I get the error messages over and over. In reading some other messages, I deleted the ' .lck' fiel - no help. The ' _vti_pvt' subdirectory now contains 20-30 ' _structure.cnf.tmpC5DB' files, which I have never seen before. I have tried downloading the entire site using FTP from server to CD. No good. Windows Explorer from HD to CD, No good. Tried FP Publishing from HD to CD. Every files comes up with an error and it will not continue. Thanks for replying
