Image Composer Multiple Undo - 11/12/2002 14:38:55
I know I am not the only one still using Image Composer......am I? If anyone else is you will know that one of the most irritating things in it is the lack of a multiple undo. Well you can have one - get it here: http://microsoftgraphics.com/iczone/downloads/ Lots of good links there at that site also.

Katherine, I stumbled on that site just the other day. It is really cool. Have just begun to explore everything it has to offer. I know you are a big fan of IC and everytime I get frustrated with PSP and something it won' t let me do, I open up IC and get the job done. It is truly underrated. (Maybe there' s a lesson here?) Thanks Dave

Nowlkldy, It may not be that it can' t do it, but that you didn' t know it could. Though PSP is cheaper than Fireworks and PhotoShop, you can pretty much do the same thing in all three. The biggest difference between IC and PSP is it' s simplicity. I still use it for very simple graphics and web design layouts every once in a while. It' s usually when I don' t feel like using layers and I want something simple. Abbeyvet, I didn' t know others didn' t already have this capability. I' ve had it from day one. Extremely weird.

Nope, I' m weighing in as an IC user as well. In fact, Katherine has walked me through several scenarios before until I became more comfortable with it. Great package....thanks for the heads up.

I like IC but lately I get jpg images IC won' t open. I have to open them in Photo Editor and save them before IC can work them. If this is a new trend, then IC is on the way out.

Another program can usually open it but IC usually does not recognize it. Another scenario is when a person mistakenly puts a period in the file such as ' my.photo.jpg' and then edits it out later. IC again does not recognize the change so you manually should rename it and it should work.

If you take a look around the site linked to above you will se they address that issue: quote:
Why can' t I open some JPG files with Image Composer? Some JPG files are saved in progressive format. IC won' t open these. Open the file in a program like Irfanview and re-save it as a non-progressive JPG. Irfanview is freeware for home use, $10 otherwise, and well worth having: http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm

I' m a cheapskate -- I use IC for about everything, with occasional help from MS Paint and a few other freewares. I don' t know what I' m missing, I' m sure. Someday, I' ll put money into a graphics program -- until then, free free free for me.

I read somewhere on this forum, that it comes with FP. I have FP2k2. Does it come with FP2k2? I believe that is a no. It was replaced by PhotoDraw(I think?). It only came on FP2000 and earlier as a 2-disc set. Microsoft doesn' t even support it anymore and you can' t use IC with XP (or at least I can' t which is why I refuse to upgrade to XP). I may be wrong.

Didn' t know IC didn' t work with XP. I guess if I try XP I' ll need to keep an older PC running something older -- *sigh*. And it' s a shame that IC was ' phased out' . I think MS had a really cool freebie going there. I can never keep track of what CD had what software on it -- I suppose I' ll need to keep my FP2K CDs a while yet. Usually I learn something new every day -- today it seems I' m getting a jump on the Holiday season...

MIC works with XP. You can install it off FP 98. VB

I found the registry file from years ago, and the code is below. I figure posting the code is easier than having a file to upload, etc. Anyone who wants to make the registry change needs to put the following code into your favorte text editor, save it wherever you like as 'undo.reg' (or whatever.reg), and then double-click for it to update your registry. The code below is set for up to 10 undos, but you can set the number to whatever you like. I changed it to 20 for myself. MIC works just fine in XP, by the way. I still use it quite frequently. ---CODE IS BELOW THIS LINE--- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Image Composer\Settings] "MaxUndoLevels"=dword:00000010 ---CODE IS ABOVE THIS LINE--- Gordo
