This is a beginning rough draft. The graphics and colors will be changing, just threw misc. in there for now, so they look bad. I know there is a lot of empty space, but made it that way so it can easily be adjusted if the client decides she wants additional info. added. Open to color schemes, etc. The color blue and nautical is popular in this area due to it being a resort area known for it' s lakes...which is the primary area of " real estate" dealt with in this area. She wanted a site different from the other realtors she works with so I tried to give her a layout format that is unique to her site that the others don' t use. Hi Rho, Welcome to OF. I also am working on a site for a real estate co. Same issues of giving them something different that is still fucntional and easy to manuver. I think that you site is a great start! [:)] She has a honest face so a few testimonials would be a great addition, maybe pictures of her with clients would help greatly. Thanks for the tips. The photos/testimonials idea is a really good one, I' ll let her know. I think she might really like it also. She' s new to their firm and trying to get established, that' s why she has so few listings. She seems to be quite open to ideas. She seems to be going for something more simple and functional. So far I haven' t even actually met her, only via email and phone. There are about 20 realtors in her firm, a few I know have their own websites but I don' t think all of them do. Hopefully if this turns out well it could lead to more business within their firm...hopefully! Also, thanks for the warm welcome. It was nice just to get a reply. I' ve been a regular to another forum and posted this site several days ago, haven' t gotten one reply yet...which is rare there. At first I thought oh, everyone is just really busy, but there have been other site reviews that have had a lot of response to them. It really began making me wonder if they just didn' t want to even look at it???? Thanks again, I' m sure we' ll chat again soon!

I am from Graettinger with relatives all over up there... in Spirit Lake, Spencer, Jackson, Worthington, Emmetsburg. Went to Graduation for my twin nephews in Lakefield in last spring

rho, Very nice start. The layout seems to work nicely. I know you said you were going to change the graphics but I wondered about the " I know what it is like" text under the banner. If you want to use the Lucida Calligraphy font I would suggest doing it as a graphic. It will look smoother and ensure that everyone will see it the way you designed it. If a viewer doesn' t have that font on their it will be replaced with the default. A graphic will do away with that problem.

If you want to use the Lucida Calligraphy font I would suggest doing it as a graphic. I figured I' d probably do that. She' d sent me an add with that slogan that she wanted to incorporate into the site and figured she' d probably want it in that type of text style...so it stands out a bit more from the other text. I' ll possibly use a graphic for the header text as well, it' s hard to say...it will depend on exactly what she wants to go in that area. Thanks for the reply. It' s nice to hear positive comments as well as negative. One of the other forums I post in has a tendency only to mention certain things they don' t like and don' t comment on the rest...sometimes you don' t know if " it works" or not... It' s nice to have some things that are liked pointed out so you don' t go changing too much and then them not liking the changes. Also, I' ve received a lot more feedback from this forum...the other I only received comments from 1 person and it took about 5 days to get it. I got responses from this forum right away and from various individuals.

Must be the season for realtor websites...I' m working on one too, and like your client, she' s new and only has a few listings. I think you' re off to a good start! It looks nice and clean - like a breath of fresh air. Around here the favorite thing for realtor websites is to have them in as many colors as possible (pref. red, white, blue, purple, and black!), with as many !!!! as possible...I' m hoping that when i get done with this one other realtors will say " Hey, I want that too!" LOL

rho, I forgot to mention one other thing. While you may plan on changing it, there are words in the introduction with Caps that should not be capitalized. example: " Husband have Remodeled & Updated Homes & Business" real estate in the next sentence would also not be capitalized.

I know, I thought that also. That' s the way it was on the ad they have. I thought it looked bad also. That was something I was going to mention to her, as well as a few things in the description areas of the homes as well. I' m glad someone else thinks the same way I do. I wonder if that' s the way the realtors like doing it...whether it' s " proper" or not....as well as using an excess of exclamation points...they just overdo it a bit.

It' s that SELL SELL SELL mentality, I think. They are used to advertising in publications with dozens of other realtors compteting for the same customer within the same magazine, newspaper, etc. I think they drag that mentality with them to the web...they' ve got to make their space as attention getting as possible. They forget that they' re not competing with someone else ON THEIR PAGE...you know? They don' t need five exclamation points to stand out from Coldwell Banker' s three exclamation points (don' t know if I' m phrasing this correctly...) In a nutshell they need to understand that the rules for print advertising are a bit different for websites. Now I wish someone would convince them that it' s OKAY to use a slightly larger picture of their houses -- they don' t have to cram everything in a 3X5 ad space anymore and have pictures the size of postage stamps (unless they' re thumbnails that click to enlarge)! LOL

rsweb and Peppergal, My realtor client also has only 10-20 listings. But I found out that she is a member of t he state realtor association. Thus, with her dues she has access to be listed on Realtor.com and have their listings on her site. It gives the illusion of her being bigger then she is. Also she can be the listing agent as well as the sales agent, (in maryland you can be one or the other and sometimes both.) check it out at www.realtor.com Barry

Oh, thanks Barry! I know that she is a part of Realtor.com and MLS. We did take a few properties from one of her associates to put on her page, just so there was something there, but I didn' t want to duplicate too much because visitors to both websites would be annoyed to find them having the same listings. I" ll have to let her know about this; it probably never occurred to her!

My realtor only wanted her listings on her site. She will be providing a link to the agency she works through...so the clients can have access to view other listings of the agency as well, but doesn' t want them on her site itself.

From a marketing standpoint it might be beneficial if those viewing her site did not realize that she was a " brand new" real estate agent as experience is considered important in this field. However, if she just has two or three listings it might appear that she doesn' t do a lot of business. A suggestion would be to show her listings as though they are just the ones she is highlighting at the moment rather then all of the listings she has.....new, special, listings of the month....something like that.

The description/introduction she has under her picture is going to change totally. For now she had me take the information from her company' s website...this is what they had. She said she definitely wants to change it, has to write something up, as she' s not new anymore...she' s been there for 2 years. She said she can' t believe her employer hasn' t changed that on their site by now. The idea of listing them as " featured listings" is a good one. Thanks!
