Major_Golf -> Comments Please (11/14/2002 5:01:11)

I recently completed my first web site and would appreciated comments regarding the site. The site is www.playersguide.biz. You can post comments to this forum or email them to me at david.fraley@gartner.com.

Thanks.....

hello - ok ... here goes .... viewed 800x600 IE6 (only viewed index page)

1. Horizontal scroll bars
2. Left hand side form - maybe have " Do you teach golf" as a checkbox?
3. Bottom menu is not very legible - try white on green
4. Left newsletter text could also be white on blue

other than that its quite neat - like the logo

Hi, Major -

Welcome to Outfront. :)

I' m viewing in a higher res and all looks fine here. If you bought a template to work from, I' d check to see if it were made for higher resolutions, or if it should work fine in 800... if it should be OK in 800 then double check your content to see if what might be holding it open. If it was developed for higher resolutions, then I' d just leave the scroll instead of trying to " fix" it. Whether you bought a template or not, congrats on a great looking site! [:)]

You' ll need to change your titles on the pages - quickest way is to switch to html view and you' ll find the title meta tag near the top, just change the wording to what you want.

Also be sure to not have any spaces in your file names. Either take out the spaces, replace them with under_scores, or use a shorter file name that won' t require either. Where To Buy can simply be buy.htm. The file name doesn' t need to be the same as the page name that is shown on the navigation buttons.... look in navigation view to change the names shown on the buttons. [;)]

Linda

One more thing.... adding more stores to your " where to buy" page should be done right away to keep you from looking like just another Amazon reseller. Add Barnes and Nobles ( www.bn.com ) and find some other bookstores to list even if they don' t have websites. Such as

New York:

Store One
Address
Phone, (website, email)

Store Two
Address
Phone, (website, email)

Illinois:

Store One
Address
Phone, (website, email)

California:

Store One
Address
Phone, (website, email)

Store Two
Address
Phone, (website, email)

Don' t have a zillion, but randomly select some from across the nation (and maybe internationally?) that would add some good content. Also needs much more content on What Others Are Saying.... with nothing on that page besides links it looks like there isn' t anything being said about it. Have some longer quotes and opinions, maybe a place for others to leave their opinions... news releases wrote by you would be good content also.

Wishing you the best of luck with this!

Linda

ps -- I noticed on the Amazon link there are no comments yet on the book. Go ahead and sign up and leave a comment, just be sure to let everyone know you are the Publisher (?) or whatever connection. Also request anyone you have recommendations from to also do this. As long as the comments are completely true and any affiliations are mentioned, this would be a good place to promote the book(s).
