Using texture seamlessly in a background - 11/16/2002 10:35:40
When using a small background image of a texture, is there a way to size it so it looks seamless rather then tiled? I know that it will depend to some extent on the texture itself but I have not been able to get textured background images to look as seamless as I' ve seen it done by others. thanks, gail

Thank you Gail! You and I must have been working on the same project yesterday....I had the same problem and no matter what I did I could not get rid of the tile effect! Hopefully a resident guru will answer!

There is a tutorial here about doing it Photshop: http://www.pixelfoundry.com/Toms/Makeback/ There is a sort of more general one here, that actually describes the way I do it. I was mightily relieved to find this - it is another horribly difficult to describe procedure! Heres one way to handle it. It does, of course depend upon what you are trying to accomplish. If there is a texture you can trick things by feathering the edge to a background color. If you were to marque a smaller portion of your background, select inverse, select feather (like 5) and then hit delete, the background texture would then fade to the background color. Now, when you save it as either a gif or jpg and load it in the browser, it will tile but there will be no seams. Or, alternately, you could do the select, inverse, feather and then do a blur of some sort. In either case, the background color is what buts which results in a seamless tile.
