This is my own site. It seems to keep changing by the week as I use it to experiment with ideas. Thanks! Oops, forgot to put address: www.rs-webdesigns.com

Hi Rswebs, welcome to the OutFront! On first glance, as the page was loading (which didn' t take too long, BTW), I really really liked the colors and the top navigation. The animations however, are distracting and really don' t do much for your page. The graphics are jagged - try re-doing them with " antialias" chosen...it will get rid of the jaggies. The animation shouldn' t have a constant looping, and it loops too fast anyway to really catch what it' s trying to say. I had to watch it four or five times before I finally understood what the right animation was flashing on the screen. Stay away from the Times New Roman font and stick to VerDANA, (not VERANDA, as I recently learned...long story...) or Arial. I recenlty read a tutorial written by someone who obviously didn' t know what he was talking about re: fonts...he said " You could use Times, Arial, or Verdana, but your best bet is to stick to Times." When I read that line, I closed the site and never went back. Times is a print font and is not as easy to read on monitors as Arial, Verdana, or other similar fonts.

Actually the text style was an experiment...I usually use Arial, wanted to see what something different would do. I' ve also been thinking of redoing the logo, haven' t thought something up yet so just left it the way it is for now. It was done with antialias, but when it' s put together the background just doesn' t seem to change to transparency very well, part of the reason I want to change it. I just have to find the time to start playing with it again. Thanks for the feedback.

Have you tried making the logo with the same background color as the part of the page it' s on rather than as transparent? That may help. I' ve never had much luck with transparent/animated gifs...maybe I give up too easily....LOL

I' ve never had much luck with transparent/animated gifs Same here...I just changed it a bit. Hopefully it looks a little better for now. It was an experiment with a newer program...the flash part. The base I changed to the same color as the background. The letters had to be transparent though...so they still don' t look great. I just haven' t come up with a real good logo yet...still experimenting. Check it again and see if it looks any better? Hopefully it won' t be looping either, that would really be annoying.

Do you think I should just slow the flash leading to the portfolio down or eliminate it totally. I put the flash stuff on the site because I was experimenting. I think I' ll change the LINKS button to state COMMUNITY LINKS or AREA LINKS because that is what that section is. So far I' ve just started getting those added. There aren' t many choices in my immediate area, so I think I' ll have to try to get some added from the Iowa Great Lakes Area, which is fairly close and possibly Fairmont??? I don' t want it to appear as though those are the sites I designed, that is why I separated them from the portfolio.

I don' t allow Flash, so I see a lot of blank space. I picked a link at random from the portfolio and got : This page uses frames, but your browser doesn' t support them.

I forgot this part. I think you should have the web sites in your portfolio open in another window. That way if I close the window I don' t leave your site completely. I hate having to go through my history file to find a website when it should have been designed intuitively.

Yeah, sorry I was thinking my site itself. The Homespun Quilt Shop site was done in frames...the client insisted on that format. What browser are you using?

RS- Nice site, here are a few things I would suggest adding. I mainly looked at your portfolio page, and the reason is.. well you need to add a bit more info. I know, I know; I get stuck on the same thing, how to start a page. Well, there are a few ways to do this, I personally go into my mind and dig out a story... But you can do it a few ways like, opening with facts, opening with story, open with a poem. I personally hate the websites that start out with, Welcome to TITLE, we offer you this and this and roam around and such and such, and give a 1 paragraph introduction. So there is something to stay away from. Also, I love your website, and I love your flash entrances, but the problem is, some people may not have flash, and that is something you should mention. Like in your home page at the header, give a link to download flash. See what you are doing is thinking about your business, not organizing it, and mainly, being self-concerned (no offense). What you should do is sit down and make Packages at different prices for you customers, I know you want people to choose you, but you have to look deep. I would personally look at some of the work that people here on OutFront do to get tips, or talk to someone, such as whoever made the Ink Design site. Those kind of people help, and it isn' t bad to get help. Ok? Just don' t take this too harsh, but I think you rushed the site. The sites you made are great and I am glad you got customers, but think more about the visitors/customers and not your business.

RE: Please review - 11/19/2002 9:37:53
Thanks! I' ve tried to stay away from setting package amounts for now because with the sites I' ve worked on lately, at least 1 in particular, if I would have done it on a package deal I probably would have gotten rooked. I figure once I' ve gotten things going a bit more that maybe I can look at adjusting things like that, right now I' m just trying to get clients built up. Living in a rural area is tough...a lot of people go toward the larger companies. I got one customer only because the competition quoted her $1500 for the site and I was a lot less. Is there a particular place to get the flash download? I' ve just started experimenting with the flash because a customer wanted a flash intro, so haven' t really had much chance to check into stuff like that. I haven' t created a download link before either. NEED HELP! (HA!)

You know, I have the same problem with putting downloads on your site, maybe Spooky will know, or you can cruise through Outfronts Help Directory..

I made some changes to my site. I removed the flash from the logo and rates comment. For now I left the flash leading to the portfolio but will probably remove it soon also.??? I made the portfolio and area links so they' d pop up in a window. Could you check it over and see if they work alright? Thanks!
