Text headers with shadows - 4/18/2001 23:45:00
Finding great fonts is not a problem, but making the text look awesome with a nice shadow is a mystery to me.Can anyone tell me how to add a 3D shadow to a text header just like the "Thomas Brunt's Outfront" heading on this site? By the way, I'd like to do it in a simple program like Paint Shop Pro (or another shareware download) since I don't own any of the other more sophisticated (and costly) programs. Thanks! - Brent

It's an image. Right click on it, see how you are given the opp to copy, save image as, etc. It's not just text typed between the heading tags. However, you can use CSS to add "shadowing" to text. Give it a try, it's really kind of an interesting effect.

I don't know how accepted this is (I'm a newbie, too) but without getting any software, one way to do it is to open microsoft word, insert "word art" and then copy it and paste it into paint where you can save it as a .jpg or .gif immage. If you want to get crazy from there, you can download microsoft gif animator (freeware) and then you can animate the word art. Just watch out cause the file sizes can get away from you since none of these programs will optimize.

Excuse me Brent, I didn't quite read the entire post corredctly. Sorry. For one thing, PSP is not a simple program. It takes a good while to get really good with it. It is however very well worth the money it costs. There are a lot of freebie help sites for newies you can get to right from the Jasc website to help you get your first steps with PSP.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I did a poor job of making myself clear.First, I do know that the "end result" is a graphic image, not regular text. (But it probably "starts" as text, is modified, and is then saved as a JPG or GIF. Second, I am comfortable with PSP...not an expert, but comfortable with following whatever instructions you may give to accomplish my task. The challenge for me is how to achieve the desired look. (i.e. soft shadow, slight darker than the backgound color, but not necessarily grey, etc.) Any more advice? - Brent

You can also post any questions about PaintShop Pro in the Graphics forum. There are several of us that use PSP quite religiously and love it. One or all of us should be able to help.------------------

Hey Brent,Try using the Airbrush tool to outline, if not, place behind the text using layers. That's usually how I do it. --joey@mindtrainonline.com
