Nate -> A Little Help and Cristicism Please (11/23/2002 19:22:00)

In my limited time, I have been working on this site for a while now. I think that I am just about ready to go public with it. I want it to turn out pretty good, so any help is very much appreciated. Originally I did a lot of it in Adobe Image Ready, then I took it to Front Page, and then I started to see how badly I could mess it up by hand. I know that the HTML may be pretty cluttered. I am nervous about messing up the site, trying to clean it up. If there is a relatively easy way to accomplish it I would appreciate hearing how. This is my first experience with chatrooms and Snitz Forum. I am having some problems using the chatroom with the a database not in the root directory, like Brinkster uses for its Premium service. If anyone knows how to help me with this problem it would very helpful. Another thing I would appreciate advice on is how to integrate the message board better into the site. Again, I am worried about messing up something that seems to work just fine.

I am open to all advice and criticsim, though. I am very much an amateur, and I am always looking forward to learning. The site can be found at http://4cyl.brinkster.net and should soon be available at http://www.4cylinder.net. Thanks for any help!

Nice graphics! It took about 36 seconds to load in dial up in NN7. The thing that took forever was your navigation graphic, which looks good, but I think the lettering is too big...I feel like it' s yelling at me! LOL

On your " about us" page, there is only the logo, the cars, and not much of the navigation graphic...only the " outline" of it.

When trying to log into the chatroom, I got this error:

quote:

Server.MapPath() error ' ASP 0174 : 80004005'

Invalid Path Character(s)

/chat/rooms.asp, line 133

An invalid ' /' or ' \' was found in the Path parameter for the MapPath method.

I would disable the link to the store, and perhaps " grey" it out on your navigation until it is ready. " Coming Soon" or " Under Construction" pages are generally frowned upon.

All in all, though, I love it! It' s a neat site, and I think you did a great job of it. I wouldn' t mess with the Snitz forum; I think it looks fine the way it is.

Thanks a lot. I think a lot of the problem is that I have a fast connection and big monitors. I guess I' m a little spoiled. Unfortunately, the way I did the site it will be fairly difficult to change the size of things without redoing most of the site. If it ends up to be a big problem, I guess I' ll just have to bite the bullet.

I think some of the problem is that Brinkster seems a little tempramental. I was just doing some stuff on the Message Board and it loading things very inconsistantly.

As for the " Coming Soon" thing, I know that it is a little cliche, but I am using it as a reminder to myself that I need to work on it. I am hoping that it is annoying enough that I will stay on top of it.

By the way, I think I fixed the chatroom. It just took a little manipulation of the code.

Thanks, again.
