Frontpage Server Extensions - 1/10/2001 21:57:00
When adjusting form properties for a completed form to be emailed to me, I put in the email address etc., but when clicking OK, it tells me the Frontpage Server Extensions have not been configured & do I want to delete the email recepient.I have gone into the Microsoft site and downloaded the extensions resource kit + done the installation. What do I do now? I have gone into the resource kit and it keeps asking me if I want to install it again and in form properties, it still asks the same question. Where am I going wrong?

It just does that because you have not published it, yet. You do NOT want to delete the e-mail recipient if you wish to receive the info via e-mail. Go ahead and publish it, then try to send yourself some information from the form to see if it's working.Sandy

Sandy,I did try that prior to downloading the resource kit and it told me I had a Frontpage Component Error. Will the resource kit change this situation?

the resource kit has nothing to do with it. As Sandy said "It just does that because you have not published it, yet.", once the site is publish to server running FP extensions everything should be OK. I am almost there. I have published the form and it is now displaying correctly. The only problem, is when pressing submit the following message comes up."FrontPage Error. User: please report details to this site's webmaster. Webmaster: please see the server's system log for more details"
I have checked the form properties and it is flagged to email the results to me. Any advice?

Have your host check the system log. More than likely it's a problem with the servers' SMTP server...------------------ Gil Harvey Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Internet Consulting - Web Development

Hey Andy,The URL http://www.wataystone.com.au/contact_us.htm Gil - I rang the host today to confirm no problems with FP extensions. They said all o.k., but not sure if they were looking in the context you are talking. Your patience with me is appreciated.

I have been away for a while and have still got this problem (haven't had a chance to fix it).To give an update though, I have contacted the host to confirm they have installed the extension. I have also published the site from within Frontpage (2000). When I called the host, they said it was easy to fix, just open the web, click on the open dialogue option, click quick links, web folder, wizard, then open form. I can't do any of this other than open the web. Please help me. I am getting frustrated.

Hi TarzanIt has been my experience that when you get the error you described, there is something wrong with the server extensions. Have your host reinstall them and see if that helps. Don't let them tell you they are working fine because they aren't. Swirl ------------------ Sometimes I think I understand everything, then I regain consciousness.

The FP extensions may be fine - but have them check the SMTP server configuration and that it is configured to work with the FP extensions..

Okay, I spoke to the host and they re-installed the extensions. No change to my problem. They also checked the SMTP configuration and said that is fine (not sure what this is anyway, but I asked the question). The support guy said that from his experience, you need to save the site "live", for the extensions to work. Is this the same as publishing via Frontpage (HTTP)? Your help is appreciated.

If you will follow this link, and put in your domain, it will show that the FP extensions are not installed, or at least not installed correctly, or corrupt.http://www.webdev.net/fpexist.asp You might show this link to your hosting service. I have not seen a time when this didn't work correctly to check the extensions. I have used this link at the same time as working with a local host/ISP and told him they were not installed, when he thought they were. As we were on the phone, he told me to hold on, tried something (I have no clue what) and when I tried the above link again it showed they were installed. I have a firm belief that your hosting service does not have them installed correctly. It is not necessary for you to open the site live in order for the extensions to work. Nancy,Thanks for your input. I emailed your reply to the host and it appears that there may be a problem at there end. They are still working on it, but I think you've hit the nail on the head (so to speak). Thanks again.
