RE: Suggestions please - 12/6/2002 7:56:44
Believe me, this post was NOT written all in one sitting. Much has been gleaned from lessons I' ve written for my students. Rsweb, there is no need to apologize for having a different opinion about the original fox! When it comes to aesthetics, there is no one right way to approach things. Something you may not have realized is that enlarging an image can sometimes actually make it look worse. shawna, you are very welcome. The help that has been given is nothing compared to the help others have provided me. I do love your willingness to learn and enthusiasm. I know nothing about PhotoImpact but curious soul that I am, downloaded the 30 day free trial. Though it is different in many ways, it has similar features to Photoshop which I' ve been using forever. Since you said you are new to graphic programs, I thought to share some of the features I use most when manipulating images. Ironically, they represent only about 10% of the program features but I use them 80% of the time. If you are not familiar with some of these features and have time to learn them, it will be well worth your effort. In addition to the Help Menu, your best " friends" in an Image editing program are the Undo command and the History panel (in PhotoImpact, I think it' s the History Commands in the Quick Command Panel). If you don' t like something you' ve just done, undo it. Oh, don' t forget to always work on copies rather than original images. So, here' s my " most used" list, in no special order: - Selection tools, including the Magic Want - Text tool - Crop tool - Unsharp Mask This is one of the effects I used this to tweak the Fox. You have to be very careful not to overdo sharpening. Effect menu > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask) For more control, when the Unsharp Mask window is open, click the Options tab) I typically use these ranges in Photoshop: Radius .03 - .09 Amount 100 - 200 Threshold - 0 - 2 - Format menu - Brightness and Contrast, Color Balance, Hue and Saturation controls - Transform tool - to reduce/enlarge the size of an image, etc. - Clone tool --------------- One more thought. You mentioned you may eventually get another photo editing program. If so, I highly recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements; many individuals in these forums use a program called Paint Shop Pro. The reason I suggest one of these is that if you need help with a program feature, it is more readily available. Don' t misunderstand me, I have Ulead Products and like them a lot. Ulead has great tutorials at their website for each of their products so you may with to check it out. gail ps particularly on the home page, have you tried what it looks like without the double lines around the main body text? edits in blue

ORIGINAL: shawna I have a meeting with a guy this afternoon that wants a site for his home business, but also wants to talk to me about creating small graphic ads for use on other websites for himself and others. I will have to play that by ear as I hear what it all entails and although I' m sure I will take him up on it for the income, I will REALLY have to learn more. That' ll be a miracle in itself!! Debbie, Don' t fret about this. I have some suggestions. You don' t have your email address posted at Outfront so, if you' d like, please email me gail@gtbdesign.com gail

Thanks for the compliment Pacific My husband bought me a HP (Hewlett Packard) last year for Christmas and I like the way the photos come out ..... BUT, they get enhanced with this free software I downloaded from this site. It is wonderful and does everything for you automatically. I would be lost without this. It is http://www.mediachance.com/digicam/enhancer.htm (the free version) is what I downloaded long ago and absolutely love it. I like my HP but the photos would horrible without this software. A friend of mine has a really expensive Canon digital and her photos come out dark, too, till she tried this software.
