I don' t think the shipping rates belong on the home page.

This is a very good point. Actually, some people who don' t know what appropriate shipping for " live critters" should be may be turned off by the price of the shipping and you really want to get them interested before tossing the shipping cost at them.

I think so too, DONE!!! fixing

Hi, I thought it might be fun to comment on your site so I joined the forum.

First of all welcome

quote:

First, I REALLY think your logo is out of this world good. It is perfect. Although I read where someone mentioned not to repeat it on every page and that is true. Make it static afterwards.

Yep.

quote:

I feel the space between your Home and GoShopping Links is perfect and should be the same between all of your links. If you can script, make the Home link only appear if your not actually on the Home page.
Logo' s should ALWAYS be a link as well to your Home page.

Will look into it. Have to check with the partners. Then they will say yea or nea..

quote:

You do not have an alt=" This is the exotic pet store blah blah.." in your Img tag for the logo. Good for search engines, and good for the sight impaired.

Opps how did I missed that one :):)

quote:

One thing about your shipping prices. The shipping price I feel should be 19.99 for anything! People want a bargain and not only if they spend 200 + dollars. If you need to raise prices on certain items in the 100-199 range then do so that your shipping is 19.99. If you do this your sales will tripple!

That what I though too. Will bring it up with the partners.

quote:

ok anyway.. this was not a marketing forum :P

Opps someone isnt looking again :)

quote:

Oh dear, I see that nomatter where I click on your links the url still says www.microdragons.com !! This is bad for two reasons I can think of off the top of my head. 1. You cannot bookmark a specific page. 2. How can I send an email to a friend with a clickable link for the AZ Mnt. King Snake ??

That issue is currently being work on.

quote:

Btw, did I mention I like the look and feel of your site? Nice simple feeling, and charming.

Thanks... The more comment the better..:)

quote:

I would <div align=" left" > this paragraph.
Come in and discover the world of exotic pets. We at microDRAGONS.com, offer a vast selection of exotic snakes, lizards, turtles/tortoises, amphibians, arachnids, and other insects from all over the world. Our site will be updated frequently, and we will introduce more captive bred livestock to you as soon as they become available. Our future goals is to provide you with the very best selection of captive bred reptiles/exotic pets.

Done look better now

Don' t know the reason but will see if the partner approve it.

Instead of Site up since.. consider Online since...

Not a bad idea. Since this is an online store

[quoite]Not decided on the Payment methods... consider making PayPal the same size as the others.

OK I though I fixed that. Oh well let see

Not sure about the Top 300 reptile sites thing... Consider making a links page for these kinds of trade-offs. If they make you put it on your home page to be in their network, drop the network.

Will get it going

Get an 800 number. They are cheap.

I really like your logo! :)

Will look into that.

Not for me. You might want to clear your cache.

I just clicked on your logo about 8 times and your green sidebar became so wide it took up my whole broswer window! And then as I clicked on my back arrow it got smaller and smaller. It' s not my cache since this is the first time I looked at your site. It' s strange!

Otherwise - I like the little guys you sell. I love reptiles!

All I get is This page uses frames, but your browser doesn' t support them.

But seeing it' s a framed site - I' d guess you' ve got the logo as a hyperlink to the main URL and it' s reloading into the main frame on each click?

I' ll agree with this...I just tested it to see what it would do...it even says it' s reloading the images (on my status bar at the bottom).

Another (I think that makes 556) reason to NEVER, EVER, NEVER use frames for the index page of a site!

Mine too. But for the meanwhile I had to put that there so the page dont look totally white. the green side bar just to make it easier for the eyes. Not unless you have other suggestion to make it better.

I guess I' m confused...just want to make sure I understand...

?You put the frame in so you could have the green sidebar?

If that is the case, all you have to do is put it in a table and have the green part the left cell...with a green background...it wouldn' t have to be a frame.

But I though that table cell will not cover the whole page.

Here' s an example of what I was thinking of..." frame look" , not using a " bg" graphic. It' s a table with 3 cells across..the side ones are " bg" color of the green...the text in center....here' s the code:

<html>

<head>
<meta http-equiv=" Content-Language" content=" en-us" >
<meta name=" GENERATOR" content=" Microsoft FrontPage 5.0" >
<meta name=" ProgId" content=" FrontPage.Editor.Document" >
<meta http-equiv=" Content-Type" content=" text/html; charset=windows-1252" >
<title>New Page 1</title>
</head>

<body topmargin=" 0" leftmargin=" 0" >

<table border=" 0" cellpadding=" 0" cellspacing=" 0" style=" border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor=" #111111" width=" 100%" id=" AutoNumber2" >
<tr>
<td width=" 100%" >
<table border=" 0" cellpadding=" 5" cellspacing=" 1" style=" border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor=" #111111" width=" 100%" id=" AutoNumber3" >
<tr>
<td width=" 1%" bgcolor=" #008000" > </td>
<td width=" 33%" >
<p align=" center" >
<a target=" _parent" href=" ./" >
<img border=" 0" src=" images/logo/microdragonnewlogo.gif" width=" 389" height=" 180" ></a></p>
<p align=" center" >" Text, etc. goes here" </p>
<p align=" center" > </p>
<p align=" center" > </p>
<p align=" center" > </td>
<td width=" 1%" bgcolor=" #008000" > </td>
</tr>
</table>
<p> </td>
</tr>
</table>

</body>

</html>

Not bad. Pretty good. I like the look. But is there anyway to extend it to the bottom with out typing in texts and blank spaces. In the meanwhile I changed the frame to the ' bg' graphics to fix it temporary.

RE: How about the look??? - 12/19/2002 9:11:26
Every time I' ve had sites critiqued with frames it was always suggested to me to change to " frames look" because of the search engines.

I had 1 client' s site that still had frames, she wanted it set-up that way because her sister-in-law had insisted it was best. I try to periodically search for sites I' ve designed, especially ones I' m questioning if they' re getting listed...hers was listed but the frame wasn' t...just home, contact us...so when you pulled up the page it only showed that actual page and no navigation, as the only navigation mode for the site was within the " content" page of the site. In order for her site to work properly with the pages listed like this in the search engine, I would have added an additional navigation structure within each page itself...by switching it to frames look it took care of that...still had to add a navigation structure to each page. I had another that listed the frame and even though there was a " description" for the page it listed the " this page contains frames and your browser doesn' t support them" ...so some may have skipped it thinking they couldn' t view it, yet they could.

RAMBLE, RAMBLE, RAMBLE...I even got out for awhile yesterday, should be no reason for being gabby. (HA!)

I guess I' ve just found using " frames look" for me has been a lot less hassle in the end than using frames. I' d rather not have to go back and " switch" a site because the client is wondering why their site isn' t being spidered properly. I did this for her the last one at no cost because when I designed the site I didn' t realize there would be these problems and figured it wasn' t my client' s fault. She thought she was hiring someone knowledgeable in the area...even though at times we don' t always know as much as we should...or at least would like to know. I' ve been told frames are going out of style and I' ve found there seem to be some pretty good reasons why.

Oh and yes, if the text, etc. entered doesn' t take the table down as far as you want on the page, you do have to add blank lines. I also put the 3 cell table within a 1 cell table. You could remove that 1 cell table if you' d like. If you want the cells outlined, just add border.

Any questions let me know. I enjoy actually maybe being able to help people a bit more. When I first started posting in forums I felt all I could do was read and not say anything, because I felt so stupid...they really are a great source. I' ve also found the more you critique, the more it not only helps others, but helps yourself. Sometimes you see a post and realize exactly why you don' t really like the site you were designing for John Q...because you just saw something similar and it popped out at you.

RAMBLE, RAMBLE, RAMBLE...:)

Like you have notice that it will take the information on the page. But if you put description/keyword in the meta tag it will reconized that index page. Maybe you might want to try that if you have more costomer that want frame pages format.

RAMBLE, RAMBLE, RAMBLE...

I actually found that out by accident. Trying to delete the one cell but end up realign the page to what I wanted.

Actually you were not stupid. You just didnt know better. I have been doing webdesign for at least a few years now (both in the military & on my own) and I learn new things everyday. Even some of the newbies show me stuffs that I never though of doing. BAH BAH BAH... I sure do will ask if I have anymore questions.. And I probably will. Especially when I am trying to learn the advance features on FP.. So I can do more especially ASP part of it. If I ever get start understanding what to do.
