Website Submission - 12/7/2002 12:38:59
Hi, everybody. I' m a newbie and glad to be with you. I' m about up to " dangerous" in FrontPage, but have managed to glue a site together and get it published. Now for the next hard part.

I' m wondering if anyone has had any experience with an online website submission group called Websquash. They claim to submit your site to a bunch of engines and listings, yet don' t charge much money for doing so. I' m a believer in the old adage that one gets what one pays for, so I' m a bit skeptical.

If anyone has had any dealings with Websquash, I would really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,

George

If this is websquash.com, I' d say no.

While they are not being overtly misleading, it is still misleading. I couldn' t find a fee option, but I found this:

Plan One : $10.99

Submit your website to 400 search engines and directories guaranteed.

We submit your website to all the major search engines and other 400 search engines and directories. We hand submit your website to more than 25 directories.

We do it for you for just $10.99 one time. We submit your website twice in a period of 6 months. That means you get your website submitted twice to all the major search engines and directories twice in 6 months for just $10.99 one time.

There aren' t 400 search engines and directories worth submitting to. There are at most 20, plus any specialist SEs or directories for your sector.

They claim to submit to Yahoo, Google, AltaVista, etc, but for $10.99, you' re just getting the " submit your site for free and we' ll possibly index or add it at some point in the distant future" option.

Woo. Hoo. Yawn [:' (]

Nothing replaces submitting your sites by hand. And there is no point in doing THAT until you have carefully keyworded, meta tagged, and swaped some links.

Do your homework, and then go out and submit your site yourself. Choose your search engines and directories, pick which ones if any you want to pay for, and carefully submit according to each site' s guidelines after carefully reading.

Ahhh the good old days when I used to jump at anything to automate my submissions and " get my site out there" ............sure it must of helped a bit, however my spam mail went ballistic and I' m still getting some to those obsolete address' s.

Strategy now......Links links links to and from your site, friends etc if you are just starting out......like minded sites will help greatly.

Hand submit to Google, Altavista (almost making a comeback??, I hope so), Teoma, alltheweb.com
Try a google adword or a overture.com pay per click if you really want to spend a few dollars and have the site found straight away.

Also very important is to hand submit to the ODP directory as many search engines will do a sweep of the ODP and update their search records....why is this important?? Because it is a human edited directory which looks your site over before deciding on inclusion, the others are computer driven........this acts as kind of a check to the site quality of the computer driven search engines.

Try Yahoo free submit, you never know your luck in a few months (it has worked for a few of my clients)

Do not expect things to happen overnight or within weeks......as it is a slow process nowadays.

Google search bots will find you if others have you in their links.....so it is important to build YOUR web with linkages. This is also important in where you rank.

It has taken me 6 months+ to get from #200 to #50, so google adwords have kept me afloat.

Cheers from the Outback
