Include " Slideshow" - 12/22/2002 16:42:08
I built a slideshow on a seperate html page. On my idex page, I used Insert->Component->Include Page. The slideshow was included but it does not slide. I am assuming I cant do this. Is there another way of getting my slideshow to work but without having to place all of my code on the index page?

Any JavaScript that is placed in the Head of the include page should be moved to th eBody tag of the include page. The include page only uses what' s between the Body tags.

Hi Mike Another option may be to build your slideshow in SWISH, then there is no need for javascripts and it has some nice basic transitions. Not too hard to learn. Cheers from the Outback

Make sure you have saved your slideshow in the same location as the rest of the web site. If you have ever seen a web site that has a little red x and an outline where a photo is supposed to go this is the reason. Somebody saved the image in a different location or forgot to upload that photo or slideshow.

Thanks for the info. Please look at my index page at http://vonrueckers.tripod.com and look at the image. The first image of the slide show works. Going to http://vonrueckers.tripod.com/SLIDESHOW2.htm shows my slkideshiow working. What might be wrong with my code? Thanks again for any help.

Hi Mike Not sure ! The slideshow page as an include is full of all sorts of Tripod...er...stuff.... and your own banners & heaps of other scripts etc. Any include i have is on a very clean page.......all you see is what you want....ie your slide show. You need a clean page for starters! Other thing is .....does Tripod support FP extensions in using the include page?? i' d be trying the flash file. Cheers from the Outback

RE: Include " Slideshow" - 1/6/2003 8:52:27
Garry, I do have my slideshow on a clean page. Dont I? It works on the slideshow.htm page. But once I include it, only the first image appears0 but no sliding. Yes, Tripod has FP extensions. I have tried to use Flash but I cant seem to figure out how to load the pictures, have the pictures change with fade, and then what to do to import into FP2000. Is there a pre-built Flash slideshow I can use where all I need to do is add the pictures? Thanks a lot.

Garry, I have been trying to build a slideshow that automatically changes pictures with a fade or other type of movement between pictures. Does anyone know where I can get a FREE Flash slideshow? I have looked at many sites but most are used for screen savers. I am using 250x250 images. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Hi Mike Not sure about flash.......swish yes! The slideshow2.htm page has alot of code in the html from tripod. Sun gif, bottom banner, empty navigation table, guest book sign, last update etc.... (may be different from within your PC to when on the web) Maybe you will have to do the old cut & paste of your code from the slideshow page into your index page. You could try this..I didnt see anything but the download mightbe it! http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Interfaces/Navigation/external-CR-7791/index.php Or a general search on slideshows at flashkit.com Cheers from the Outback

get the trial version of swish, you will be addicted within minutes and it is a whole lot easier than Flash. if you don' t like it (very unlikely) no harm, no foul. www.swishzone.com I do have a question though, what is the purpose of putting the slideshow as an include, especially if it is only on one page? If I understand, you will have to go into the slideshow to change it anyway and since it is only on one page there seems to be no benefit using it as an include.....I think? Good luck.

Similar problem. I want the Slide Show PhotoAlbum to be in a cell in a table and therefore want to adjust the width. I can' t find a source of info to do this.

Hi jjrnow, & everyone... Thanks for all of the help. I already tried the free trial of Swish. I am not a full time web designer. Only here and there. I never really got to play with Swish before my time expired so I don' t think I can get it again. Being a weekend hacker, more like monthly, I was hoping to build for fun a slide show. Nothing elaborate. I didn' t really want to spend anything extra just to make a slideshow. So, I opted for a free script to do the trick. I also " thought" I could use the include statement to keep down the amount of messy code on my index page. Keeping it clean for updates. I guess I am hosed. Thanks a lot for everyone' s responses.

Hey mv8167, I don' t know how much, but I have the following slideshow on my homepage. www.mycalvary.com I guess it does take up some space but it is pretty limited. I would imagine the include would clean it up somewhat and make it load faster on subsequent visits but I don' t know how much. Maybe one of the " experts" could tell you. Good thinking though! Have a good one. quote:
