ok - so i sliced the image up into 9 parts - seems quicker but I still can' t tell if its cache or page speed.

Anyone know of a online page speed checker?

Micah,

Try http://www.netmechanic.com/toolbox/html-code.htm

This will check for html errors large image sizes and test the speed of the page.

Micah,

I saw a long list hotels.
It was a long loading time.
It seemed longer than your original page.
12 seconds at fast CableModem speed... :)

LLLuneeeee :)

RE: Page speed - 1/20/2003 15:35:10
and this seems out of wack:

</head>
<body onLoad=" closeLoader();" >

<script language=javascript>
var url = ' load.htm' ;
var x = window.open(url,' loadingWindow' ,' height=20,width=100,scrollbars=no,toolbar=no' );
x.moveTo(200, 200);

function closeLoader(){
x.close();
}

</script>

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>header1</TITLE>
<META HTTP-EQUIV=" Content-Type" CONTENT=" text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" >
</HEAD>
<BODY BGCOLOR=#FFFFFF>

try:
<body BGCOLOR=#FFFFFF onLoad=" closeLoader();" >
also have the popup either center on the screen or have it load off the screen cause x.move is taxing on the speed.

RE: Page speed - 1/20/2003 16:31:21
go into start>>programs>>dos prompt and in dos type:

tracert www.leisure-ideas.com

basically you are seeing the route from your computer to the server where the pages are hosted. each jump from company to company to get to your website is called a ' hop' if you have a time out anywhere look at the company (listed on the very right,maybe w/ IP address) or if the time is over 40sec/hop, it is that company that is slowing you down, you can contact them but usually it just a waist of time, cause they more than likely already know about it, but you can anyway. Also try connecting via frontpage extensions to your site, does it take a long time to connect or have an error message right away?

Your home page may load slow to, but it also may be in the servers cache, if they cache (i hate when they do that)

yes request time out indicates that there could be a crack in come optic cable. The comapny b4 the timeout is the one you should probably contact about this. You can print/screen and send it to them. When thing get fixed you will speed up considerably. I once had to wait 1 month to use FP extensions cause of a simular reason, the FP extensions wouldn' t hold cause of the time-outs. And it took Sprint that long to fix the issue. oops, did i say SPRINT....

Micah,

I definitely think the hosting company could be at fault here.

Maybe a new hosting company?

The one I use is www.hostinguk.net very good pricing with superb support and FP extensions!

Have a look.

You can' t ask your hosting company to do a tracert, unless they are down the block from you, otherwise they won' t have a bad commection, unless they tracert to your ip address. try www.everplanet.com if you do sign up with them mention www.instant-canada.com in the referral box, cause i' ll get a free month of hosting...... [:j]

I send all my client their for two reasons, 1, they are excellent hosting and you can publish thru front page and ftp at the same time, secondly, there are no contracts so if ever decide to get a server one day, clients can switch over ..... ops i hope everplant isn' t reading this :)
