Problems Publishing via FP - 1/14/2003 15:47:42
Hi all,

I am moving my site from one location to another. The new host assures me that FrontPage Extensions on the server, but I' m having problems publishing via FrontPage (I can FTP without problem see http://www.usig.org/Default.htm for an example of the new site - it should look familiar to most of you).

How do I:

1) verify FP extensions are installed without constantly bugging them with a phone call?

and

2) Rectify the following error that I am receiving from FrontPage:

" The folder ' http://www.usig.org/' isn' t accesible. The Folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password or the filename contains a / or \."

Thanks for your help in advance.

You can do a sort of check on extensions here; http://www.netcraft.com Enter the URL into ' What' s that server running?"

According to netcraft your is running:

The site www.usig.org is running Microsoft-IIS/4.0 on NT4/Windows 98.

Usually if extensions are installed you would see something like:

FrontPage/5.0.2.2510

It' s not there, so I assume they are not installed.

Thanks for the help. I inspected Netcraft - very interesting.

The problem is that when I checked my old host (http://www.icnl.org) to see what it would say when you did have FP extensions, it unfortunately didn' t didn' t list FP extensions either - though I know they are there because I have been using it for years.

I think I' m going to call them and tell them I don' t think the FP extensions are installed properly.

Thanks for tryng though. If there are any other possibilities or thoughts, I welcome them.

is this fixed?

I looked at the site and it was saying that you needed to enter with

http://www.usig.org (no trailing slash)?

anyway it put up the login box like it was supposed to....

Actually no.

I still can' t publish with FrontPage, so I used FTP and everything seems to work well, but I still get the error when I try to Publish via FP.

The host is looking into it further.

The old site is http://www.usig.org

The new site is http://www.usig.org/Defualt.htm (I need to change this, I know it will cause problems soon, but I wanted to wait until I could publish in case I needed to make quick changes)

Anybody looked at the server log files?

everything seems to be hooked up alright, maybe an error with the authentication...
