I' m doing some work with a pan european event and I was wondering how to get to the top of the foriegn search engines such as Google ?
Does anyone have any good strategies

Been doing a bit of that myself of late.....with various success.
Maybe a bit of checkbook search engine optimisation is required.
Try Google adwords after having a dig around at at the appropriate search terms that people might use, submit for worldwide use.
Then over at Overture try the individual countries, ie germany, france (top right of screen) & enter there. Once there opt for the English version, unless you Parlee Vou.
Set up an account and choose your search terms.
BTW I have had a few probs getting my terms approved in Germany, mainly due to spelling in languages.
Otherwise, work on optimising your pages for those search terms as Google feeds alot of the other European search engines with their results.
There are many engines in Europe that require you to have your website in that target audience language, so maybe you need some of your pages translated for specific target groups (more $$).
Have a look for all the other " sporty " sites in Europe & get them to link to you asap (as it may take a month or two to get listed....without adwords $)
and even then you might be down the bottom of the ladder as your site filters through over the coming months)
Put it this way......on the same day one of the Bee Gees died, I saw a google adword at the top of the page for a " tribute to the Bee Gees" ) How in your face is that!
