I would love feedback on this - 2/3/2003 10:25:11
On all of it really, look, text (appearance, not so much content which is being actively edited at the moment), navigation, loading times etc.

But primarily I would love to know how people find the free registration process. I will delete you before the site goes live - so you won' t get email or anything!

I am just concerned that it is clear to users and that it all works smoothly.

BIG, BIG, WARNING!!

This site currently only works in IE - I know that, I have not even put up the style sheet for NN and I am NOT concerned about that AT ALL at the moment.

That said, for IE users only :) - it' s here: http://66.70.114.15/

Hi Katherine

Site looks smart as always, personally and only that, I would have preferred the site to stretch across my screen but that' s no big deal.

I signed up for the free membership and a couple of things... I like to use my back button a lot and couldn' t in the members area without refreshing - probably unavoidable but a shame. The forum I think might be better in a new window as naviagtion on the site is lost at that moment. The rest of the site is attractive and simple to navigate and with good load times. Good one!

Cheers
Andy

Me too, but my CSS skills do not stretch to a 3 column layout that stretches! :)[:' (]

I have not done anything with the forum except upload it - everything is still at its default setting. I will be adding navigation to it. It' s a nice board, but my goodness the customising of its appearance and HTML is the most labyrinthine procedure I have ever come accross and is incredibly poorly documented. I will be working on it over the next few days, if I can figure out how to!!:)

Hi Katherine,
Looked at your site with IE 6.0.

(1) At 800 X 600 there was a " horizontal" scroll bar of about 1/4" on all pages.

(2) On Home page, should " View sample instalment" read " View sample installment" ? Unsure as to the European spelling.

(3) Home page took 30 seconds with 28.8 on 56K. Don' t place a lot of importance on that. I' m having extremely slow responses today, the Forums are taking forever to load.

(4) No problem with the registration.

(5) Checked all major links, plus a large amount of page links without problems.

John

P.S.
Changed to read horizontal from vertical as to scroll bar. :)

John - European spelling?

Spanish = el plazo;
French = le versement partiel;
German = Ratenzahlung;
Italian = la rata;
Dutch = Afbetalingstermijn;
Portuguese = a prestação;
Norwegian = avdrag;
English = instalment :)

Abby - great looking site. It took me a few moments to locate the registration part, mainly due to the fact that my eyes were drawn to the " online courses" . Don' t know if thats a good thing or not! Depends what you' re trying to achieve. I guess if I went to the site to register that would be bad. But I' m assuming most people visit the site to see the courses on offer, and as a result register?

Anyway - I viewed in IE6 - 1024x768 and all is good.

I agree with Andy regarding the back button but again, probably unavoidable.

one thing that I would point out - what happens if I want to unsubscribe? I got my email, thanks very much, but it contained no unsub. details. Maybe a thought.

LOL!!!! Am in the middle of a lenghty discourse with my client who says the online course are not prominent enough!

I am afraid there are still some people who believe that unless its in HUGE letters or moves, no-one will see it!

A great point. The thing is that the membership management and the mailing list management are kinda separate - the membership thing does have a facility for mail but I have grafted two different scripts together here as my client needed more fine-tuning of mailing lists than the membership script allowed.

If you are on the Members Profile you can unsubscribe from the mails and all mails that go out on the list have an unsubscribe link, but it is not really possible to include it in the welcome email.

I will try to find a way to make all the above clearer though.

I think that the correct ' British' english is instalment - is it not?

My spellchecker seems to think so

Hi Katherine

I am getting a strange effect with the graphics in the right column. control-Refreshing the page didn' t help. This is viewed in IE5.5 on 1024x768

Haven' t tested the registration process yet.

Katherine,
I really like the appearance of the site but I did have trouble with registration.

The first time I registered I didn' t get the registration confirmation when clicking continue. I was taken on to to course selection. When I got to the credit card part it knew that I had put in an incorrect credit card number (format). I used the back button to go back. Since my registration had never been acknowledged I tried to register again. Didn' t work. It kept wanting to take me on to correct my credit card entry. I think I may be registered three times with different information. Finally registered again with very different information and got the confirmation with the first continue button.

I completed the registration process and received my email with no drama.

Two minor comments:

1. In the registraion form it says:

Please Note: Fields marked * are required

The field marked " *EU Resident
please check box if you are EU Resident
" is a bit confusing in that regard. I felt I had the leave the single check-box unchecked, but the form was processed with no errors anyway. I' d suggest that you either remove the asterisk or add another check-box for non-EU residents.

2. The confimation page states: " ... if you hare already a member

I eat lots of salad but my ears are regular-sized thanks! :):)

Katherine,

Just an update.

For all my attempts to register and the system thinking I was registered I have not yet received an e-mail.

Mmm.

Thank' s Paula. I need to follow that up. I am getting them, at several addresses, so it is odd.

Thank you for pointing out the reg glitches too - I know what was causing that and we are working to sort it out.

Kitka, that was very useful! I think I was getting too fancy for my boots with CSS on that part of the page. I have completely redone it and it should be better now.

Registration itself worked, no probs.

(I would, of course, have preferred to see UK rather than US as the default on the drop-down box, but I' m getting crotchity in my old age!)

I' m still waiting for the email to arrive, though [:j]

UPDATE: I used the " Lost Password" bit to prompt another email, and there' s no " thanks, we sent your password to you" thing... it just refreshes. I' m fine with that, but you know how people are.

Still no mail :)

I signed up a couple of times, including with AOL and using an AOL email address. Email confirmation arrived within seconds in each instance.

Me too, and it will, but I had just got the drop down to work today - it is deciding based on your answer whether to lop on the VAT or not - and had not gotten around to changing the order.

I just did, ' cos I make anything that would make Bri even a teeensy bit happier a top priority! :):)

I think though, that while making that county and VAT thing work, I broke the mail [:' (]:)

And you ARE meant to see a " sit tight - your password is on its way" page. I broke that too. :)[:' (]:)

I think I will have to stop playing with this for a day or so - everytime I try to make one thing better I break 2 things.
