Google lists IP address and not the domain name? - 2/18/2003 9:14:05
I recently submitted a customer' s site to some search engines using a free submitter on another site (ok... Bravenet). They were added in about 4 to 8 weeks, but Google lists the site' IP address and not the domain. What' s worse if the page listed as the IP address had a Google page score, but the page with the domain name does not! Any suggestions on how I can correct this one?

To see what I mean, search Google for Northlake Custom Woodworks. Click through on the first link and the site is there with the IP address, complete with a Google page score (for those using the Google Toolbar). Now type in www.northlakecustomwoodworks.com and you get no page score.

Cooper:

I did as you directed and saw the differences.

What is " Google page score" and where is it on the scene?

When you go to Google, you have to click on Tools and download the Google toolbar. It gives sites you hit a page score (basically their importance in the eyes of Google). It' s good to know in case you want to ask for a link, etc. to attempt to boost your score.

It looks to me like a registrant problem or a host problem. Even following the link from your site sends me to the ip address not the site name.

Or maybe this:
I have heard that google spiders pages and lists new sites from links from other sites. So if they spidered your site and got the ip address as a link then it may have used it.

I * have * noticed that google indexes by ip in the sense that I have three domain names for one site... If I type in thebestfedbaby.com, I get results... the I type in breastfeed.net (which goes to the same site) and the info comes up the same as the first.

Now, on MSN, they are listed one after another and it doesn' t seem to matter!

Google does a dance ( spider ) around the 25th of each month, or shortly after.

If it deems your website relevant it will take the top level url at least and cache it.

It normally takes 30 days for that cached webpage to show up in Google' s directory.

I would wait until around the 15th of March and see if the website in question shows up.

If the website shows up you are well on your way.

If it does not you have two options:

1) If you have a verifiable amount of links pointing into your website then hand submit the website url to google.

2) If there are no links pointing in work on getting some relevant links pointing into your website. While your website is busy being spidered by the other engines and you' re busy building link popularity, by the time that Google " finds" your pages, you should have had time to build some link popularity, which we all know is so important with Google.
