web design business - 2/22/2003 5:56:56
I am looking for resources on how to develop a small ( part time ) web design business. Just some basics on what it takes to start this kind of business , also what is a good basic guide to setting design prices, hosting prices etc.

One of the best articles I' ve ever read on the subject is posted right in the tutorial section at Outfront:

http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/business/firstclient.htm

Also, read the threads right here Web Business Matters and SEO section...lots of golden nuggets about many aspects of web design business.

I began by volunteering to do a website. Potential clients will want to see your work. I thankfully found Outfront and discovered out how much more I needed to learn. And, more importantly, where to come when I need help. I eventually got my own domain. I do this part-time and for fun.

Web design, and related, jobs, have gradually started rolling in. Pricing can be difficult in the beginning. I surfed and found a lot of web designers who post their prices so I began getting some sort of idea what to charge. I was also fortunate to have someone review my pricing on a couple of jobs. There is A LOT to think about when pricing.

All the best, freeze.
