Online Access database administration - 2/23/2003 3:19:21
Heres a cool tool that I came across for administering Access databases.
Seems to be quite fully featured :)

That does look handy...

I usually just open the web in FP, and open the database from the root directory. Access downloads a copy (quick because I' m on cable :)) and then when I make changes it saves them back...

There is a little bit of a delay while the files transfer, but it' s not terrible...

Thanks for the tip. From the demo it looks like a very useful item. When I try to use it though I get hung up on:

set xmlDoc_ = Server.CreateObject(" Msxml2.DOMDocument" )

Is this supposed to be part of IIS? Is it only in v5.0?

Thanks again for your help.

I havent looked at the specs, but I believe its at least IIS5.
I tested it on IIS4 with various failures, so transfered it to a later server and never looked back :)

Thanks for the IIS5 " testimonial." I am curious about what is working for people in regard to managing DB data. I read posts from a lot of people who just open the database from FP, make their changes, and save it. This has worked well for me in the past.

However... What are people doing who have their database (Access) stored behind the root directory? Also, I have some data that is frequently written to the DB from the web (each time a new visitor arrives, or requests a catalog, etc). Some data is better suited to editing in an Access form (like inventory items). If I open Access and edit inventory, the DB will overwrite any visitors that come to the site :(

Has anyone experimented with separating the tables into different .mdb' s and using Access' Get External Data > Link Tables to combine the tables or is there a locking scheme that will provide the results I need? Other than creating a web interface for the whole thing (which has some disadvantages to Access forms when doing data entry) Has anyone found something that works well?
