Using Spooky's Login Just To Collect Email Addresses? - 8/3/2001 20:50:00
Is it possible to use Spooky’s Login for simply collecting email addresses? All I want is a box that says “Sign Up Here To Receive Updates” then when a user types in their email address I want an email to be sent that confirms their subscription, then once they confirm they get added to the database. I’d also want them to be able to unsubscribe too. It really looks like all of these futures are already there I just don’t know how to strip out the password box and possibly add a few more fields to collect some other info on my users? If anyone knows how to do this or if there is already instructions somewhere on how to do this please let me know.

Thanks,
Nick

No its not there.......yet

Its possible, youd just use the register page to record your details and then the admin area would be used for whatever. Similar to now.

When the user registers, they would receive an email with a link that "deactivates" their account (not deletes)
This works in exactly the same way as authentication does now - in reverse

When using the system to email each user, you would also need to include the deactivation link (specific to each user record like unsubscribe MAIL systems now) so more processing is needed for each email.

The part that I think concerns me most, is using a URL to deactivate an account.
URL's get a bit long and may not wrap correctly, it may make for a long string thats not clickable
