Page Critique - 3/4/2003 15:17:09
I' m looking for a " page critique" as opposed to a site critique. The current page: http://www.bigblueball.com/im/yahoo/default.asp The proposed page: http://www.bigblueball.com/im/yahoo/default2.asp This will show you the Yahoo! Messenger section of my site, which provides info on all of the most popular instant messaging programs. I' ll likely do something similar for the other major sections. I' m looking for ways to present a lot of relevant content in an easy-to-digest form, while keeping the maintenance down. As such, you' ll see a lot of dynamic content. Does the mix feel right? Is there enough detail? Would you like more or less? I' m also considering revamping my navigation to use " expandable" subnavigation for each section (rather than the flyouts current used, and only supported by IE). I' m discontent with the disconnect between the top nav " buttons" and the left-hand menu style navigation. Any ideas on redoing are very welcome. Oh yeah, don' t worry about hurting my feelings. I have thick skin.

Everything looks good! Couple of things though: 1) there seems to be a lot of empty space on the right of the screen but the top covers the whole screen - when viewed 1024x768 2) expandable nav IMO is not as nice as pop outs. 3) I like the " disconnect" - keeps things clear and simple Other than that it looks great!

Thanks for the feedback. The page is designed to " flow" to fill your screen resolution, but there is a 150 pixel column on the right side that is reserved for a skyscraper ad. When you see the blank area, the ad network I' m using either runs out of inventory or their ad servers are slow. It is a little awkward the way the nav buttons at the top lie above the ad rather than content..... Maybe I should change the alignment and let them float over the center of that column? I also have the column that begins with " Tips and Tricks" and currently contains the " Featured Skin." This could contain other content, either a brief poll or possibly the " Top 10 Links." Might balance things out better.
