Cheap Ranking info - 3/6/2003 11:14:57
I have been searching for a cheap ranking company to find my new sites within the search engines to find out where they stand. All the places I went to want to sell me software for an amazing price which generally is an annual fee. Very pricey!! My site is listed with quite a few, but I' ll be doggoned if I can find it and I really don' t want to search 2,200 pages. Does anyone on this board have a this type of service they wish to rent out on a one time fee? Is there a cheap service? Any suggestions? Thanx. Nutz in Midwest

Hi, I reverse data mine. I analyze my log files. I then look for keywords/keyword phrases. I then look to see what SE is reffering to my site. I then go to that SE and enter the keyword that users came in on to see how they rank. I also know what keywords I have optimized for and hit the SEs, do a search for that keyword. Of course I only have to view the first SERP though (Man don' t I wish ;)) to find my listing, seriously I just drill down until I find my return. Brian

the host that I use provides me with free web reports - tracking, key words, page views, hits, just about everything you can think of. My host is Infoquest, and they provide Urchin reports - very comprehensive. Don' t know what they charge since I get it free. One caveat - Infoquest puts me on a shared server and in high isolation mode, which sometimes causes problems with my orders. Doncha just hate trade-offs?

But there has to be a way to cheaply identify your position within the SE' s based on keywords withput spending a bundle. Anyone have ideas ? Thanx Mike

Hi Nutz As LB said , manually is the way to go for a small site. A tweak here & there with your keywords, titles address etc and a watch & wait for the next update. Googles is meant to start later today?? Tools like web position Gold etc were confirmed yesterday by Google at the Boston? search engine strategies conference to be in conflict with Googles TOS and may be penalised. THere is a great info page on 26 ways to a better website in Google http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm . I read it and read it often for motivation. Ranking takes time, so be prepared for not so many quick fixes. Man I' ve been struggling with one' s I really want high, and others just slot in hogging the front pages......its a bit fickle sometimes. (especially when you are charging someone to work on their rankings) Try www.google-dance.com in the next day or so & watch where your site might be slotted in te next update. (When all servers are equal the update has not occurred yet ,or has just finished) Dont forget Teoma & alltheweb & MSN , I sometimes print search results or go through and manually write important ones for each month or noticable update. Go to dmoz.org find a category now & ensure your sites are submitted then wait 3-6 months. (sad but true) Cheers from the Outback

I hope I don' t divert this conversation to far from the original post, but I' m curious (tell me if I step on any toes, or if I need to move this post)... I have one site, I developed it myself for my business - it is my business. Here is my question: I keep hearing about keyword count in the content, and content, content, content. I also hear that stuffing your content with a bunch of keywords and comma' s can be detrimental to SE placement. I offer over 4000 products - everytime I try to think of appropriate content, my default page starts looking like a table of contents. What' s the real truth about content and keywords? Is there a good strategy for having SE friendly content when all you have is a huge list of products? Some day I' ll hire a professional web developer to make my site right, but... (big sigh!) From the south - Y' all have a great day

Hi, It' s a fun dilemma isn' t it? Basically I try to theme my site and use a tiered approach to keywords. On my index page I use the most generic keywords I can target. I divide all my content into categories using sub directories. I then make index pages for each category. Here I get a little more specific on what keywords I use. I use keywords that cover the category generically. I then on the sub pages under the category target very specific keywords. These are my " money pages" . They are usually product pages/items for sale. On my last site my category pages accounted for a VERY large amount of entry points. This told me I was targeting areas of interest and that the traffic was pretty well targeted. I then would churn out more content for the categories that seemed the most popular when looking at my log files. However when all is said and done I still think content is king! Brian
