Hi y' all

I' m new to this e-business stuff and I generally learn stuff the hard way.

I' ve been ripped off once (and most likely twice) by advertisers that place my ad in " pop-unders" in other sites. I got a boost in alledged traffic from one advertiser, but the other didn' t even show up in my traffic report.[:@]

Does anyone know of a reputable advertiser or network where I can get legitimate, verifyable, targeted pop-up or pop-under ads for a reasonable price? I would be willing to have a pop-under on my site if there is an exchange network somewhere.

I sell beauty supplies, and I don' t want ads on casino sites, adult sites, etc. Just high quality shopping-oriented sites.

I' m also looking for a good non-spam email campaign with a legitimate opt-in list - I don' t have enough customers yet for a good list - plus, I wouldn' t want to hit new customers with an ad right away - I don' t want to be offensive.

My personal opinion is...pop ups and pop unders are a plague. I rarely use my IE browser because the new Netscape and Mozilla browsers have built in pop up supressors. I think spending your advertising money on pop ups would be a waste...I rarely, if ever, even LOOK at a pop up that comes up when surfing with IE. Most people I know hate pop ups and supress them with software. I hate, hate, hate pop ups. You would harm your site, as well, in my opinion, by putting pop ups on it. :-(

I think you' d be better off looking into advertising in ezines or have a small banner ad on sites where your target audience would likely be surfing ...those I actually look at as long as they' re not obnoxious and annoying.

Look into exchanging links with sites that are similar (but not in competition with) to your site or would be of interest to your visitors. Set up a links page and do a reciprocating links exchange with other reputable sites (I' d stay away from general link farms, though...)

I' m still feeling my way around this stuff; so I could be wrong.

Thanks for the advice. It' s tough being in business on the internet - especially when your products aren' t unique and there is lots of competition and your buget is zero and your time is all used up and you don' t have any help and on and on and on... to infinity and beyond.

What peppergal said is true for most of us IT type of folk, but in practice pop up/unders are usually good performers. The reason so many sites use them is they typically pay off very well.

If you use them wisely/sparingly you can see big returns.

It IS a dilemma[:j]. As a business person, I have to get my " store" seen. As a consumer, I hate pop-ups in general. However, if they are relevant to what I' m browsing for, I don' t mind them so much and might even visit the site. On my own site, I would only have a pop-up if I had an urgent message to my customers.

What' s hard to find is a REPUTABLE company that will feature my ad in their pop-ups (I prefer under) on thier sites, that I can verify and have relevancy to my product line. All that without paying an unreasonable price.

Does anyone know of a forum for small online business owners?

pop-up blocking software is one of the hotest selling software on the net today, you are wasting your money, maybe not now, maybe tomorrow.
thats my tarnished 2 cents.

why not promote yourself thru, key words, when done properly, they reach your target audience very well. Ofcourse its not just the keywords you need, the knowledge on how to best apply them and what you should be doing to synergize them..... again my tarnished 2 cents. one of my websites, when the keywords are searched by google, the site comes up as number 1 always. lots of tricks and lots of time.
