barry -> opinions needed (3/8/2003 19:24:19)

Hi everybody,

I would like your opinion of this Home page. I am a minimalist at heart, but people need information.

Do you think it has to much text?
Does the page make you want to investigate or bail?
Does the page convey custom scents and bath products?

I am going to fill the bottom with simple text to link somewhere

None of the links work and a few other things but I don' t want to go to far down one path then junk it [:@]

The New Link

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,
I' m looking with IE 6 at 1024x768. Overall it looks good.

Yes, maybe get rid of the " Distributor Program" blurb?

IF I had been looking for that sort of thing I' d stick around.[;)][:D]

Not so much. The image at the lower left seems more suited to a dating site.[:p]

Maybe a little, but not bad.

Thats exactly what I was trying to do!! How interesting is soap, and lotion?

But if that soap, lotion or perfume gets you attention from the opposite sex then my marketing is done![:D]

abbeyvet -> RE: opinions needed (3/9/2003 14:07:11)

I don' t know what it is with me and your sites Barry - but your slices are all broken up on me again. [&o]

barry -> RE: opinions needed (3/9/2003 14:55:37)

katherine,

I was thinking about you when designing this. That why I stopped at this point.

I think that your system is set for viewing the font at Large. This moves the background slices so that they don' t fit the table. I am reading the CSS parts in hopes that I can control that a bit better.

I am also trying to figure out if/how I can anchor the right and left columns and 100% the middle.

I will e-mail you if I figure it out[:)]

Thanks

abbeyvet -> RE: opinions needed (3/9/2003 15:38:59)

My text size is set to medium. If I set it to smaller it looks fine.

As far as I know medium is the default setting - so likely to be commonly used but I cannot figure out why I am the only one who keeps having this problem with your sites. [:' (]

I like it btw - though I do think the Distributer program text looks very odd stuck in at the bottom. It would probably work ok if it was the same width as the rest and possibly on the same pale green bg as at the top.

Mike54 -> RE: opinions needed (3/9/2003 16:59:13)

Hmmm, I have mine set to medium and it looks fine but when I go to " Larger" it looks like this
[image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/upfiles/2876/Xv64700.jpg[/image]

Maybe there' s a problem with Irish browser versions??[;)][:D][:p][8D]

Swirl -> RE: opinions needed (3/9/2003 17:58:29)

Hey Barry,

I like the overall look of your site, but I agree about the Distributor text. I would do as suggested to make it fit in with the rest of the page. I think you need a little more contrast on your title too.

My only other comment is about the butterflies. The smaller ones look fine, but the larger ones, especially the one near her hands looks like it' s getting ready to attack her, or fly into her mouth![:o] Maybe if you rotated it a bit and moved it closer to her hands, or placed it on her hands it wouldn' t look so menacing? I would also remove the one over her head and maybe place one up in the banner area? Just a thought.

Sex appeal sells! [;)]

Thanks Swirl!!!

Glad you got a laugh out of my observaiton. I guess it' s my natural aversion to bugs, but when I saw that picture, I thought " ewwww, that butterfly is going to fly right into her mouth" ...YUCK! Don' t get me wrong, I like butterflys, I just wouldn' t want one in my mouth! [:' (][:D]

Enjoy!

Text wise, I think it' s not too much, but any more could be overdoing it. you want to give your audience enough to make them continue into the site.

quote:

Does the page make you want to investigate or bail?

If that was what I was interested in, I would want to investigate. You are able to discuss what it is you are selling, without going into great detail.

quote:

Does the page convey custom scents and bath products?

I would say yes it does...

The one suggestion I would make (which was made already) would be to make the distributor program text the same width as the rest of the site, and I would make the text a bit smaller. right now it distracts from the rest of the page. when i opened the link, that' s the 1st thing that caught my eye, then i scanned up...

Peppergal -> RE: opinions needed (3/10/2003 14:46:16)

Hi Barry,

Personally, I don' t care for either of the pictures...the nude lady is just...I don' t know. [:p] I do like the butterflies...they give it a nice airy touch....(I hadn' t thought about them attacking though; that was pretty funny! LOL) I don' t think, personally, that the black background is appropriate for the rest of the graphics and the " feel" of the site. I would go with something a little more breezy... but of course, that' s just a personal opinion.

I agree that the " Distributor" text at the bottom is out of place there.

erinatkins -> RE: opinions needed (3/10/2003 15:56:53)

I have to agree with peppergal on this one. Nude lady does not do anything for me. If I did not know you - I would probably leave the site. Some people may take offense to it.

I did like the butterfly comments.

You might want to make the distributor text a link to another site or the dreaded pop up. Can' t believe I said that.

barry -> RE: opinions needed (3/10/2003 16:42:47)

Peppergal and Erin,

I never thought of the lady showing t o much " flesh" [:o] I was trying to find a picture that tastefully shows alot of skin. The other is a lady getting nuzzeled because of the scent she is wearing.

I will redo the graphics on your suggestion, simply because you both represent the target demo-graphic..........Women. Most guys can stink and would not even know it if women were not around[:@]

I will get it done asap

LB -> RE: opinions needed (3/10/2003 18:49:39)

Hi, Barry -

Is there any money at all for a simple photo shoot? Maybe a photogenic member of the family would be willing or friend of the family? I' d actually like to see a close up of the product, and if you have a lady holding an open bottle smelling the lotion or gel, or holding the bottle in one hand and a dollop of the gel in the other and smelling the scent.... or simply a fun one of her smiling and holding one or several of the products! Have the model in a tube top and show her from the shoulders up... some skin, a bit of suggestion, but not as much as the butterfly lady. [:)]

Any which way, I would like to see a close up of the product. Remember the strawberry with the chocolate? (think anyone here has forgotten that?[:p]) I think you could do the same thing here without even having a model. Make us WANT it! The graphics, colors, and layout here just doesn' t do that for me. Maybe some lotion pouring down a part of the screen and list out the fragrances available? ...another idea... got a photo somewhere of a woman enjoying a hot tub of water? Think spa... relaxation.... fragrance.... something that says " buy" . Want to add more sex appeal to that? Add a handsome guy (sans the shirt) leaning over the tub holding that chocolate strawberry... then advertise chocolate and/or strawberry scented products.

400 fragrances are a lot to promote, but maybe take a few " featured" ones and do something cool to promote that scent? (more realisticly, probably along the lines of flowers and fruit rather than a photo shoot with the models and the spa [:D])

barry -> RE: opinions needed (3/10/2003 20:53:50)

Linda,

You inspire me!!!![:D] I 100% agree. Thats why this page simply did not feel quite right!

I would love to do something with lots of bugs. I think it would be harlrious but I most likely would not sell much[:' (]. So I think I will start with the butterflys and go from there.

I will keep everybody updated but I am putting the thinking cap back on.

PS- That chocolate site, I had that site stuck in my head 1 year before I got the client[8|]. I think that my enthusiasim helped get the deal because I had it mentally done. maybe I will start cold call some garden centers so I can use this bug site in my head[:p].

Thanks,
Barry

I think both Katherine and my systems are fine. What seems to be the problem is that there is:

#1. No size (10pt, 12pt, etc.) defined for the actual fonts:

<font face=" Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" >

So when we see it your actual FP default is Times New Roman 12. There may be a glitch between browsers (I' m on IE 6.0.2).

#2. Try to set the picture/top banner that is directly under the title to the top of the cell. Do the same for the naked girl. (who is gorgeous by the way[:p]).

This should solve your problems. At least for now.[;)]

Shirley -> RE: opinions needed (3/11/2003 9:58:42)

The girl is too big and the products too small.
It really doesn' t give me a clue what you are selling.

Linda' s ideas are great. My first thought was I would rather see the girl in a bathtub. That would at least give me the idea that it is bath products.

barry -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 14:27:43)

I took everybodies suggestion[:)] Now what do you think? The links work to some of the other pages.

Barry

erinatkins -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 14:31:03)

I like the new look better than the old one. [:D]

Butterflies when you click on navigation is great. [:D]

Only thing I am not sure about is if the 1st page is to busy. I will need to think about it. I really do like the flowers. It gives me an idea that scents are involved.

I am thinking it is the girl near the blue & white. Is this suppose to be a cocoon?

Erin

LB -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 15:57:56)

That' s it! It really gives the impression of " Fragrant Skin" . [:)][:)]
I like the water idea, but it does look a bit off... maybe the line is just too angled and sharp?

Not sure if the links are supposed to be next to the logo, under, or like it is here....

Linda

Mike54 -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 17:11:03)

Hi barry,

It' s a definite improvement. I think I might change a couple of things (that' s just being me, no offense). I' d go for a little fade in the header instead of the hard cut off and I' d line the links up. I think I' d go with some tiles around the " tub" fading out at the edges of course (sorry I didn' t have any tile images handy[:p]). I think I' d change the background color just a little so it wasn' t too overwhelming on the page and center it up. I thought about " framing" the image but that didn' t work.[:' (]
[image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/upfiles/2876/Zw69479.jpg[/image]
Just a couple of thoughts, on the whole it works.[;)]

Sorry ' bout the quality of the image, I could only squeeze so far.[:(][8D]
Sorry #2, how ' bout some rounded edges?[;)][:p][:j]

Peppergal -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 17:17:22)

I LIKE IT!!

I just think now there are too many butterflies. Perhaps get rid of that dark one in the center...I only know it' s a butterfly because I know that' s what it' s supposed to be... and I' d get rid of that one on the big pink spikey flower that' s sticking up in the air...not the little one on the left flower but the one on the right.

I LOVE everything else though.

Swirl -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 20:16:09)

Hi Barry

I like the new look much better, but I do have a few suggestions. First, I agree with Peppergal about the butterflies. I think you need to lose a few. I' d still like to see a picture of a lady in a bubblebath, or a tub filled with flowers maybe? Try using the background color, 99,99,66. It' s an olive green that I think would compliment the rest of the colors. I still think you need to work in a picture of some products. Have you considered centering the page?

BTW, I like the fruit images you added to the other pages.

You' re on the right track!
Swirl

EWD -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 21:50:43)

I' m coming to the party late! I missed all the interesting stuff discussed early on.[;)]

My mind likes it but the more I look at it, I think if it was suggesting " fragrance" my thoughts go to heavy and overpowering - like musk! Remember musk? there' s a reason it' s not around any more!

The pretty flowers all suggest light and airy and fresh, but the background works against that. Perhaps plain white or cream would help it " breathe" ?

Too many bugs. I' m sorry I didn' t see the " attack butterfly" !!! [:D]

Shirley -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 21:58:42)

Please take this as constructive adn don' t hate me okay???
On my monitor the bg color looks like the color of babyfood. Baby peas to be exact.
And those of us who have changed diapers after our babies ate that...well.... it does not bring to mind a nice fragrance.

I' m sorry... but I know you want the truth.

I like the rest just not the pea green bg color.

edit: maybe I just need to adjust my monitor

Swirl -> RE: opinions needed (3/12/2003 22:13:44)

Hey Barry,

I' ve been playing around with the site and came up with this...

[image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/upfiles/15/Pn35792.gif[/image]

I found the image on AltaVista/Images and it' s a Corbis, no royalty photo. I have the link if you' re interested if purchasing it.

Feel free to do your own thing, just a suggestion.

Swirl
