Joe Hussar -> SE resubmittals?? (3/10/2003 7:38:15)

Hello.........

My ecommerce web site is listed in the major search engines, and has been for 2+ years. I originally submitted the site (using software) every 3 months or so but haven' t in the last year.

My question is: If I am already listed in the search engines, what, if any value is there in resubmitting periodically? My site IS updated very frequently (weekly), but don' t the search engines use spiders to recrawl sites that are already listed with them?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi,

None in my mind. The SE already knows about you. their spiders/bots will crawl your site and realize that you have new pages.

Further to a recently raised query on web position software, It was mentioned by Google at the March 2003 search engine conference, that use of such software is in direct conflict with their terms of service.

Now since Google is king at the moment, I would play by hand.

Maybe you need to have a look at your site Joe, and see where it may be letting you down in the rankings.

I very seldom hand-submit to the free engines anymore. I let the bots pick it up organically, although I will admit to submitting to Google occasionally to satisfy an anxious client.

If you' re slipping in rank, it' s due to something else. Take a look at the sites above yours and try to determine what they are doing and you are not!

Debra.
