Acrobat & PDF files - 3/14/2003 16:49:11
I know this isn' t the right forum, but can someone help me out. I somehow set my Acrobat to open the PDF files on my hard drive in Word. I get garbage. I can open the ones on the web, but not the ones stored on my hard drive.
I can' t get an answer from the Adobe forum.
Can anyone help me, or point me in the right direction.

Have you check the file associations? If you right-click on a PDF file (within My Computer or Windows Explorer) and then click on Open With, can you select Acrobat? (You can change this globally in Tools-Folder Options-Flie Types.)

You didn' t mention whether the Acrobat file you try to open has an Acrobat or Word icon. If it looks like an Acrobat document you may want to try this (I use Acrobat 5.0).

Open the Acrobat Reader Program: File menu > Open

Navigate to the Acrobat document you wish to open. If it opens, then use the File > Save a Copy to save a new Acrobat document which is not corrupted; you may wish to give it a new name instead of overwriting the old file.

If this doesn' t work, follow the advice given by KCIWebMaster to change file associations.

Thank you very much.
I went to the Tools option and guess what. It was set to open PDF' s with Word. I am sure I did that myself, but don' t have a clue how.
You guys are terrific. This is the best forum I have ever subscribed to.

Nope, don' t necessarily blame yourself. Happens to all of us. Most of the time we don' t know why although the most frequent culprit in my experience is when a new program, particularly a graphics one, is installed. [:j]

Glad you fixed it.
