Search Form problems - 3/19/2003 16:26:30

I have hit a roadblock on IIS 5: I cannot get a FrontPage generated search page to work on the windows 2000 server. It works, no problem on a unix box ( WAIS) but even with indexing on, services restarted, and all directories in a catalog, I cannot get it to function. Any thoughts?

was indexing on when you built the search page? If not, build another search page with indexing on and see what happens....

after you built the search, you could try

Tools --> Recalculate Hyperlinx

see what that does.

If indexing was on when you built the search page try to rebuild the index, see what happens.

You should also delete any indexes that are not necessary, like C:\

just some thoughts...

Thank you! I deleted the search component, recalculated the web, rebuilt the component and recalculated again for good luck and it worked. I appreciate your help.

Download this site search script:

http://www.webwizguide.com/asp/sample_scripts/site_search_script.asp

It' s an excellent script.

All you have to do is modify some code (very easy by the way), telling it which type of pages to search, e.g. - .htm, .html, .asp, etc.....You can even tell it which files and folders not to search (admin, cgi-bin, etc). Also, I highly recommend that you enter keywords and a page description for each page, as that is what it mostly looks during the search.

I' ve come across the same problem you' re having on Windows servers...After I found this, I stopped using the FP search.

Good Luck,

MB
