Someone to judge this site please - 3/19/2003 18:55:52

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, as a frontpagenewbie i want my current site to be judged, what is wrong with, what to be improved, take notice that i made it just as WYSIWYG, i don' t know anything bout the other facilities.
I' m not sure but there may be troubles with buttons who don' t always appear while browsing.

Well, I turned off my speakers and went back - something I would never do for a real site! I could not figure what was there - just a busy background and a oval - then I noticed the scroll bar and scrolled to a Enter link - I clicked Enter and got: Op deze pagina worden frames gebruikt, maar uw browser ondersteunt geen
frames.

Is there a reason you do not want anyone to see your site?

so the " enter" must be more in sight as i understand.
the Dutch sentence you' ve got after clicking ' enter' translated means:
" this page uses frames (screen divided in different sections: left menu bar, above another menubar, center display), but your browser does not support frames" .
Is your Explorer not tweaked right, or...?

My questrion is why have a page with nothing except " Enter" ? The next page should be your " Home" page.

I was using Opera - one reason I like Opera is I can decide not to view framed sites. " If" you do use a frameset you are required to have the conten of the site within the <noframes> </noframes> tags...

I added this page, coz i read somewhere, the first page must be a quick load (users could dismiss further browsing), and must be made up as a ' seduction' , to make users curious to know what lays behind it. Thats why its there, probably you could be right, tanx greetz.

After I pressed Enter on the first page, it took 5 minutes or so before the main site came up...

In fear of sounding ignorant....I was wondering what your site is about?
What I could understand was written about a game.
But then in the left hand side of the page is monitor, scanner and other stuff... I am confused...must be an Aussie thing! :)

The first page did get me curious as to what the site was about.
And I liked the animation on the first page!

Other than that, I liked the colours and layout.:)

Hi stompinne - Welcome to the Forums! :)

Your wav sound file is defeating your purpose stated above. With a 28.8 dial-up connection, your homepage took over four minutes to load. Were it not for the page being listed in Site Critiques, I would have left.

I agree with Gil' s suggestion as to eliminating the " enter" page. If you decide to keep it:
(1) convert the wav file to MP3 format so it will load faster and provide the visitor the option to turn it on, dont have the music load immediately.

(2) Move the enter button and explanation of the site to the top of the page.

On http://users.pandora.be/mypc/mypcinframe.htm the page also loaded extremely slow. Look at the size of: /logoroundedcrosszoomstretch.gif, at 166,269 bytes, it takes time to load. Also, while your buttons are only about 2,000 bytes, nearly forty of them also slows loading.

Hope this helps!

On this page http://users.pandora.be/mypc/mypcinframe.htm
here are a few of your images

logoroundedcrosszoomstretch.gif 166269 bytes
17022300.gif 36832
email.gif 25129 (twice)
abackground4.gif 157.74K

You need to reduce the size of these images!!!
Your site will load MUCH faster

Yep right didn' t take modemusers in account, yeah it must be very boring loading such a drag.
It just that here in my country, most users are mainly broadband (cable) wit a downloadcapacity/speed of 4Mb/ps and then ADSL and a small minority of 28/56...modemmusers, so some megabytes extra doesn' t hurt over here, i think i better let my site judge over here to get a critical judgement, anyway tanx for your replies, greetz

For the record I use a cable modem and I still think you should optimize your images.

I agree about them images being big, and the layout weirdy, why have an intro page to that site?, i find that sites with a lot of content feel weird with a big intro, too much impact upon me, cart was smooth, couldn' t continue shopping after an add to cart... maybe i missed something.

tanx j-man for your review/reply, about the intro-issue guess i' ve put somewhere before this thread an answer to it.
Bout your shopping-issue, indeed i saw in my outlook, that someone ordered some computerspeakers (as test, was it you?). Concerning your further shopping problems, normally after adding something in the basket, you just have to click/choose something from the menu on the left or simply return with ' back' , i just checked it again, works smoothly, or maybe you can check it again? Normally there links/phrases to help you out on every occasion, maybe it can be that the Dutch language on the site doesn' t help you.
' winkelmand' means basket
' vernieuwen' means refresh
' afrekenen' means ordering/final calculation of the orders

Tanx

I can' t believe what I saw. It looks like you put alot of time into an eCommerce website that is unfortunately not going to generate alot of revenue.

No offence but, keep the website simple, and practice stuff like the sound files on a personal website. Just my 2cents
