Need Help with Oracle 8i - 3/21/2003 19:42:00
I am trying to do a name server on oracle 8i - I have it all installed and I used the wizard in order to create a database and I just want to be able to connect to the database without writing the Tnsnames.ora file on the client. Do you know an easier way to do that? Also do I need a DHCP server to get the Nameserver to work? I know that this is a frontpage forum but I didn' t think it would hurt asking this type of question. Can you use SQLNET and sqlnet.ora instead of TNSNAMES.ORA? I don' t think you need a DHCP server with sqlnet.ora. Your DB server should have a fixed IP (or a DHCP reservation). Your client IP shouldn' t matter. However, you might be able to feed connection information to the clients via DHCP. I have never done this with a DB server, but we have passed information for FTP servers to thin clients via DHCP.
