Bankrupt Client Needs Mechant Acct - 3/22/2003 18:57:47
Hi Everybody, I have a client that I did a site for that has a bankruptcy within the past 24 months, (ex Enron employee that lost the 6 figure salary ). She is having problems getting a merchant account for me to plug into the storefront software. Any ideas? Does anyone know of gateways that have lower credit standards than banks? Thanks, Barry

Try www.2checkout.com, or www.paysystems.com That is to say 3rd party processors, they don' t care much who you are or what your status is in that regard.

I did the development of a site last fall and the person had very bad credit. It was difficult getting them a good deal on a merchant account. Actually, it was impossible. Getting less than 2% discount is just not going to happen with bad credit. I ended up having them go to www.charge.com. They did get an account, but they had a $5000 per month limit. Eventually, they applied at many different merchants and ended up having 3 different accounts. Each having a $5000 per month limit and on 1 of them they had a 5% reserve. This made having a purchase go from the shopping cart to the gateway almost impossible. I ended up making a batch upload program for them (which I had done before and prefer to auto-processing) so they could choose which of the 3 accounts to send the charges through. Really, it was a pain - but it has worked out for them. I think they have since had their limits increased after they had 6 months of " good behavior" on their accounts. Anyhow, I hope this give you some ideas. Otherwise, Katherine has some nice links. You could always go the PayPal route, but you will loose a lot of sales I think.
