What is this company doing? - 3/26/2003 12:40:22
We have a fairly successful web site at www.9thtee.com but are always looking for more visitors. I use netmechanic to do search engine submissions and we do pretty well. I noticed http://www.sitesolutions.com/index.asp and wonder what they are actually doing. Has anyone ever heard of them or similar companies? It says that they guarantee a top 3 ranking on quite a few search engines including Yahoo. They charge you a per click rate which looks like is in line with Google AdWords, which we also use. They also say that if you quite using their service, that your lising will be removed. How can they do this if the listing is in the search engine? Any help is appreciated. Mark 9thTee.com

Hi Mark, I did not check out the site but a few key things make me assume Oveture. Reasons: quote:
Top 3 listing Oveture quote:
They also say that if you quite using their service, that your listing will be removed. They disable the Oveture account. Brian

I jumped on the Site Solutions train when their " package" was on sale for $59. Number of hits has jumped in the 4 months I signed up by about 15%. However, I am still generating the same average number of sales. The sites I am getting linked from are REALLY off beat. I had someone find my site from a specialty site dealing with breeding dogs. I appreciate the visitor, but I sell FrontPage web templates. I am recommending to all my customers they save the money, use the free tools and hand submit. That way they know what is happening.

What you are paying for is called Pay Per Click ( PPC ) once you stop paying you get delisted. PPC is great for a website that has not been indexed or moved up in ranking. PPC does cost and if not implemented and managed properly can cost a lot. You need to look at how much your product or service is and define how much you can pay per customer acquisition and the lifetime value of a customer. If managed properly PPC is a great way to get traffic, but as I said once you stop paying you get booted off. The best tried and true way to get traffic is to optimize your website, and implement an aggressive linking popularity campaign. Either go into the forums and learn yourself, pay someone for a phone consult to tell you what to do, or hire a company. Nobody can guarantee you a number position, and do believe those who say that they can! One can guarantee that your website will gain many very high search engine positions. No one can guarantee that your achieved ranking will retain its high placement forever. Search engines are constantly changing the ranking criteria that they use. In addition, there are other companies on the Internet that are competing for the same customers. Combined, these factors will certainly affect the ranking of your website over time. That is why SEO is a an on-going project to improve your website position. No one can guarantee additional orders due to the higher ranking and increased traffic volume, but a properly optimized website will bring customers to you so that you have the prime opportunity to make a sale. SEO in the long run by far is less expensive with constant positive results but it takes anywhere from a few weeks to 60-90 days to see noticeable results.

I' d have to say stick with the " old fashioned" methods. Create a site with relevant content, have internal and external links, and put in the meta tags. One of the very first clients I had now ranks #1 on Google for the main word used to search for their products. I created the entire website in a matter of hours with Frontpage about 3 years ago. The only content that has really been added is a message forum since then. It' s nothing special but probably 60% of their business calls in from the website. Of course, it helps that they were advised back in ' 98 or ' 99 to buy the best domain possible for their products. Even so, the site is actually a subweb of another domain they own which is not always the best for search engines, but it consistently ranks high in most of them for relevant search terms. Now, I have been comtemplating updating the site, but and kind of worried about not fixing something that isn' t broken!
