Not sure what to call it - 3/27/2003 19:55:53
this is my problem. I am building my website and on it I have a wholesale page for wholesale accounts. I have set it up so they have to complete a form and once approved for my wholesale prices I will send them a link to the wholesale prices, which my retailers can' t see. So how do I do this. I have checked other sites so this is a common pratice. My thought is I would make a page called wholesale prices and not publish it, but how does someone get to it. Do I do somehting like password protect. I don' t know, I am lost on how to complete this task. Please help me.:)

I' m not exactly an expert on this but this is how I would go about doing it. First create a sub-web within your website. To do this just create a new folder in your main site and then right click " convert to web." Do what you want to that subweb by clicking on it in the folder list. It will open in a new window when you double-click on it. Once you' re done, save and close it. Then Publish the main web. Make sure to check the " include subwebs" box.

Now you have to set the permissions:
Open you main site live. Meaning go to Open and type in http://www.yourwebsite.com. You should be prompted for your username and password. Once it loads open your subweb by clicking on it. It will open in a new window. Go to tools, server, permissions. From there it opens the website administration page where you can change the access setting. You can do things like add users, turn off anonymous access, and in your case specify only certain users.

As far as allowing users to register themselves, FP doesn' t offer a registration component that allows you to approve first. Look for a PHP or Perl script at http://www.hotscripts.com. I would make a simple form that emails me the results of their registration. Then send them back a main login like admin: wholesale password: prices or something like that.

I hope this is a start. Feel free to email me and I will try and assist you if necessary.

-Steven

You can do password protection in a number of ways.

The subweb method might be easiest, but not as customizable as something like Spooky Login (under the Shop link above...)

It really depends on how secure you want it, and how you want your " members" to access it...

___

To create a subweb, right click your root web folder (in the folder tree window to the left of the main workspace in FP)

Create a new folder and name it.

Then right click it again and select Convert to Web

Voila... subweb...
