Re-critique - 4/2/2003 11:16:02
Hy there y' all. I think i should have put this in my other thread, but i was afraid no one would see it. Anyway, for the first time, i used FP 2000 to make a page...which i never ever do....but i used it to redo one of my sites. It isn' t finished yet.... like the ' Blank1' s' at the top, are meant for the Drop-down menus that i will put there (once i figure the darn thing s out...a little help please), and the other blanks will be filled in once i get some feed back, and for some reason, load time is killing me (or it could be my stoopid comp). So please, let loose your critiquing prowess (but don' t hurt my feelings [:j] ) and tell me how i am doing.

Thanks a lot guys.
Andre Fields

Well, I' ll go first.

1. As soon as the page loads I get this error:
quote:

Line: 2
Char: 29
Error: Syntax error
Code: 0
URL: Http://www.geocities.com/navyseal180/revised.htm

2. Check your spelling. Developement should be development.

3. The thumbnails are not readable. Either enlarge them for clarity, just show part of the site, or use text links.

That' s about it for now, kiddo.:)

Load time was very quick here (dialup 56k). Two errors: Line 165 Object Expected & Line 1 Syntax error.

I really like the layout and colour scheme :) I did have a little trouble seeing the red text on the lighter grey - ie: the headings DeltaNet.TK and Completed Projects - but this could just be me. Ditto Seventh' s comments on the thumbnails.

Hi Andre,
(1) Loaded fast with my connection of 28.8.

(2) Review your spelling and grammar:
In case you dont know, DeltaNet.tk, is a web page developement firm, that, well, obviously builds web pages. As of now, we are offering our serivces in HTML, and DHTML for free, At least until we get profcient enough in others areas of Web Media to start selling our services. We started in January, so we co not have very many staff members. If you are intrested in Joining our Web Developemnet team, plaese contact me, Andre Fields at navyseal180@yahoo.com for more information. Basic requirements are:
--- 1+ years experience with HTML, and Cascading StyleSheets
--- Proficient knowledge of Various Image Editing/Creating Software
--- A sample webpage (prferably image) that you have created

(3) Personal opinion, but the text was rather small and hard to read.

(4) Just a suggestion - try to be more positive about your firm. Remember, you' re trying to sell yourself to a potential customer. You seem to be apologizing for your lack of experience.

(5) Since you' re offering your services for free, have you considered offering them on a volunteer basis to some local organizations? It will provide both a portfolio to offer and also generate some goodwill for yourself.

(6) Move the job posting to a separate page. Also, once again remember to sell your firm.

Hope this helps.

Yeah that really helps a lot. I have a problem with self confidence. hehe. How would you go about fishing for local Organizations? Oh, and about the spelling, i knew it was there all along, but i wanted to take care of major stuff first. I was going to comb through it after all the major stuff was done. Anything else wrong? Is the layout attractive? Do i need to add more images, what?

thanks again

Procrastination is what laxatives are for. And you may forget about some of the words when you do the ' major stuff' . In the end, you' ll just end up with...well...you know. :)

Check your local Chamber of Commerce, religious organizations, schools, etc. Beyond the portfolio, you may also find volunteer web development for these types of organizations could possibly result in referrals which may result in paying contracts.

The major stuff is the spelling in that it shows to the viewer your level of professionalism. There are many web site developers out there. What makes your site different from the rest?

Do i need to add more images, what?

Re-read the comments above, plus those from the prior thread. Work on the quality of your images.

Marauder, keep in mind that you' re competing with thousands of other developers. What differentiates you from the pack?
