Tripod long shot - 4/5/2003 16:02:50
Was wondering if any of the wizzs here have worked with Tripod CGI before, specifically The TripodMail module. Grr, are they not aware it' s hard enough to learn without them implementing different modules from the rest of the world.

I' ve not used Tripod - but most hosts use a variation of FormMail. You should be able to look at the FormMail documentation and adapt it. What part is giving you trouble?

Smiles thanks Gil, I don' t think the general approach will work with this one. I don' t know pearl, I would like to learn, but the best way to learn is practice, I can' t practice without being able to look at the work of others, study it and improve on it. Smiles, thats why I design websites. Tripod have cut me off at the feet, to even use someone else script, to change var' s, and the like, to see what does what, ain' t possible. Why? Well because they implement there own version of standard CGI modules. Sendmail becomes TripodMail, without a clear indication on what should be included to make the thing work. I will get it in time, I always do. Sorry for being frustrated, but it' s rather slack for a hosting company that selects to use non standard code, then supplements this with a statement saying that they do not provide support for their own CGI implementation.

Yep that' s why I switched to Netfirms. They don' t offer any support, but I can upload my own CGI for testing. Have you tried Xitami web server? It' s free for windows, supports CGI and allows you to test and learn PERL without worrying about hosting!
