I' ve never used it, but my understanding is an anonymous internet service acts as a proxy between you and wherever you go on the net. You sign up for the service then you will connect only to their server, and their server then connects to whatever site you want to visit and relays everything back to your browser. Therefore the visited site doesn' t see anything but the anonymous server. I' m sure there is more information on the web somewhere.

I' m trying to understand if someone can browse any site and look at or download files, even files and images that may not have links to them from webpages within the site. In other words, can anyone look at the entire contents of an hosted website without the owners permission? thanks, gail

All anon browsing does is cover the end users tracks. It does not enable them to look at anything unusual. quote:
In other words, can anyone look at the entire contents of an hosted website without the owners permission? This sounds like you are describing directory browsing. I test this out on a lot of sites that I view...just to see. This is locked down by the host. If a site is not locked down then I could go to www.whatever.com/images and get a listing of every file in that directory. If it is then you will see: " Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." . Hope that helps, Brian

Smiles, you can set up a proxy quite easily to let you view the internet without being traced to the correct ip. No need to pay someone for that service. A proxy allows for the ip you would normally have to be masked. Some proxies hide other info, block cookies ect...... Using a proxy does not give you magical powers.
