I have a couple of friends in the graphics biz and when I asked them about doing this they told me it was a pretty major undertaking... but they like to make things sound more difficult than they are sometimes... What I want to do is deboss (I think that' s the proper term) a portion of a logo (basically a circle with an " f" cut out of it). I wish I had the file with me so I could post it and show you... It' s a circle that is a gradient of bright green to dark... with the shape of an " f" cut out of it, floating over a black background... I want the green parts to look like an enamel automobile emblem / ornament. Like Fords blue oval... kind of... Is this really tough? Or something that I might be able to accomplish with a little effort? Am I making any sense at all? _____________________________ If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

I haven' t heard the term " deboss," but that doesn' t mean it doesn' t exist, it means I don' t know about it. I ran to google and found this little example of " deboss." http://www.sevillegear.com/deboss.asp I' m sure it can be faked somewhat easily in PhotoShop, just don' t know how off of the top of my head. I' ll bet Seventh knows. Is this what you meant to do, Bobby? To be honest I' m not sure if that' s the proper terminology or not... but that' s the word that was used when I asked about the process. I kind of like _gails idea better... It' s not embossing, but almost like it... Instead of making the image look like it' s embedded into, or raised up from the surface... Well it sort of is... Take a simple oval, like the Ford emblem... give it a 3-D " look" as if it' s rounded or semi-spherical... add some lighting effects to give it that shiny polished enamel look, and voila! Debossed! I was surfing around the other nite and saw a couple of web logos that used that effect, I just cant remember where any of them are at the moment... I want the oposite... I want it to look like its raised off of the page... but embossing - up doesn' t get it there... I' ll have to play with some ideas and see if I can stumble upon a solution... That' s about what I' ve come up with when I try to emboss... but I want to add a convex look, and a polished... glossy enamel finish to it at the same time... I wish I had my logo on file on this pc so I could at least show you what it looks like as-is I' ll find an example and post it back... the one sticking in my mind was in the shape of an " h" - well, a funky " h" anyway... and was really cool. Mike, I hope you were able to sleep okay [:p] I just got done cleaning the house. Kerri' s Mom and Sister were going to come over and help out... tomorrow is Kerri' s baby shower... but they ran short on time and we had to finish up what we could. Anyway... I started thinking... if debossing is so tough, why is every reference to it tied to embossing or engraving, or some other similar term and effect..? Mabye it' s not the emboss at all. I mean, it is... but that' s not what I' m missing. Maybe it was texture? As you can see I' m not very good at describing what' s in my head... but adding some satin to it and playing with the curve levels got me close enough that I' m happy with it... I seperated the two " halves" of green and added an emboss (outer bevel) to them. Then I played with the angles on each individually until I got the " light source" close to what I wanted. Then I stumbled upon the Satin settings and got to playing in there. I tweaked the contours until the colors blended and bent just right (or maybe just a bit too far, that' s okay too... ) Saved for web as a GIF I have several empty bottles of Bud to toss (Jr.' s pass was SO legal), and then I' m going to bed.
