Forums? - 4/16/2003 18:44:34
I am considering adding a forum to my site and was wondering what recommendations and experiences everyone has had with forums? And, are there any forums (not including FrontPage' s own) that allow you to easily add and use FrontPage' s navigation? Or, is it beneficial to have the forum hosted elsewhere? There seems to be a huge difference in costs from free to costly. Does anyone have experience with Infopop or ASPplayground?

Thanks,

David Dornblaser

I knew that and I like the forum. I wish that I could also include my navigation with it though. Or, does it matter if the forum is separate from the main site. And, how does it compare to the other options?

I forgot to mention in my original post is which is easier for a relative newbie to work with? Easy of use is an important consideration.

Thanks

A lot will depend on your server type - this one relies on IIS and SQL server.
There are various other options, but all need to be based on that. What server type and database do you have access to?

I am a great fan of this one and cant say enough about the features, ease of use and support. Well worth it.
When it comes to navigation, general modification of headers and footers will get you close. However, you will find thats an issue with whatever solution you end up with.

I should be OK in terms of server. It has 50 MB of disk space for MS SQL 2000 and has database support for ODBC database access and MS Access/FoxPro. The fact that I am unfamiliar with all but basic Access is a concern. Do I need to program or does the server just need to run the forum? Can someone with limited experience get the forum up and running?

Thanks,
David

This, in my opinion also, is the best forum for an ASP site. And the price is VERY fair.

David - To add the forum to your FP navigation, Go into Navigation view, right click on the page you want it to appear linked to (for example to get it in your top level navigation, tight click on home page), then select External hyperlink and put in the URL.
