Anyone still checking their sites in NN 4.x? If so, why?

Yes, I' m still checking in NN4.7. I have two business clients who still use it on a 640x480 monitor and do work for a large school system that has thousands of PCs running NN4.6 and 4.7 as well. Besides, it keeps me humble. :)

I check with NN3.04 with Javascript and images turned off [:p]

Actually, I use that browser for surfing when I doing research - Nothing is faster...

Oops, forgot the " why" - Because if I can navigate and access the content with that browser configuration I know it' s accessable to 99% of the WWW users. I don' t pay any attention to " pretty" - just useability.

I do but with a twist...

My newest sites really looks bad in NN 4.x BUT....

A) Navigation works without issue
B) They can get to and read content pages
C) All shopping cart pages work

I feel I have done my part at that point. If they still use a browser that old they are probably used to sites degrading very roughly if they work at all.

<edit>EWD also brought up a good point. This is my first site that I designed for 800X600 as the minimum. I did however base that on large fonts (read 125%).
</edit>
Just my .002 cents,

Brian

Gail,

Depending on the site, its purpose, its audience, there are many that still use the old browsers.

If the site is intended to sell goods, I wouldn' t want to just brush off a percentage of the business in an " I don' t care" attitude.

Yep, but mostly as a check...

I usually open a site in NN4.8 just to check it out. I very rarely go back and alter anything, as long as the page data is still readable and navigation is available in some form...

I tend to use MZ and Opera while building the site... I only check in IE6 near the end (because if it works in the other two, it' s likely going to look fine in IE), then one last check in NN4x before finalizing.
