New site ready for critical review - 4/21/2003 7:19:47

I have just published a new site at [link=]www.ddl.co.za [/link] and would very much appreciate any advice and guidance.

The overall structure of the site is complete but some details remain to be added.

Thanks and regards

At first it seems a little crowed. My eyes were not immediatly direced at something. You need to make sure that you have a focal point. I would try to spread things out a little. Give your articles more breathing room. I would also think about making an image for your title that drew the eyes when you first opened the page.

Overall, a great site. It looks good once you can get past the clutter. I would also think about changing the background to white. The pastel beige really contrasts the bright orange and green. May be a blue even.

I hope I have not been too critical.

Good site but I agree that the colours don' t quite meld. A darker green might work.
Links work well except that I quite like to close or go back without having to reach for the Browser back button.

Hi Tony,
Looked at your site with both IE 6.02 and NN 7.02, resolution initially at 800 X 600 and then at 1024 X 768. Dial-up connection of 26.0 kbps.

(1) Site loaded in about 40 seconds on both browsers. For some reason with IE 6.02, there was a noticable pause in the load at about 15 seconds when the left-hand link menu loaded. It lasted for ten seconds, then the page loaded fast. I did not see that in NN, but the load time was the same. Your image properties did not look large. It could just be IE reading the menu as a block of information.

(2) You may want to look at your site with a 1024 X 768 resolution. There' s a lot of empty space on the right side. Percentages would help in the table widths.

Hi All,

Hope I am not repeating myself - I pressed Ok just now and the screen died!! So here goes again:

Basically thanks a ton for all your comments.

o These are corporate colors but I will experiment with Colormix which I have just acquired to see if I cant get a better meld.

o The download time for me is +- 20secs for the first page with a connect of 45kbps on a 56k dial up modem. Maybe using a local server in South Africa cuts some delay down for me??

o The first page menus are probably slowish as I am using all the mighty mouse code all in the body section of the include page - none in the header section of this or any other page. This advice from another forum discussion - maintenance is easy and after the initial load the other pages seem to load without delay??

o Didnt use percentages in the tables to avoid potential distortion of images and fonts - I think I picked this up in another forum discussion as well.

Once again, I am truly grateful for your suggestions and will investigate all of them and make the necessary modifications.

I really appreciate your input as it is so hard to be objective about your latest ' baby' ......

Regards
