Photoshop filter effect - 4/21/2003 8:53:39
I can' t seem to find a filter or texture in Photoshop which will give me the effect shown bellow. Can anyone tell me how to create and apply this type of linear effect to an image?

thanks, gail

I did find this add in filter for PS but be warned I haven' t tried it. Number 20.:)PS blinds filter There' s another here but without a sample. And another here for vertical and horizontal blinds Titled " Entrelacement" part way down the page. Hope this helps.

PSP has the " Blinds" effect, the Gimp has a similar effect under " Script-Fu"

In Photoshop you have to " build" the effect using a combination of several things...

I did it in Photoshop 6 using the horizontal line tool to create blinds, selected them by color, changed to the photo layer while the " blinds" were still selected...

" Layer via Cut" from the original photo and modify the opacity levels... a drop shadow can create some cool looks too...

It takes few mouse clicks to get it to look right...

Or you can email the picture to me and I' ll do it for you in PSP :)

It' s actually really easy in Photoshop.

1. Create a 10 pixel by 2 pixel new file, transparent.
2. Zoom way in and color the top half of the image black. There should be only two pixels in height, so color all of the top pixels.
3. Select all. Edit --> Define Pattern. Name it whatever you want.
4. Create a new layer above the photo you want to add this effect to.
5. Edit --> Fill --> Use Pattern --> Select your pattern.

From here you can do whatever you need, decrease opacity, chage colors, etc.

Hope that helps!

Your way... 7 mouse clicks one time, then 2 mouse clicks each time after that....

My way... much much longer... much.

Nice tip, Thanks!

can one create a checkerboard layout the same way, using a 3 x 3 pixel canvas? Filling in the top and bottom rows and the center, then assinging this to pattern? That would solve an old problem of mine.

The suggestion should work just fine for you. Play around with it to determine the right size for the application that you need.

This one is 6x6. 2x2 (which would do the same as 3x3) looked weird (gave the image so weird distortion. But yeah, just keep playing with patterns!
