About to make drastic changes - 5/1/2003 16:17:25
Really like this forum, so here' s my first post:

I' m about to add an inline frame blog to the index page of this site: www.la-legal.com

The site has gotten very successful from a visitor standpoint and page ranking. I' m adding a blog for a couple of reasons, one is that Google seems to love them and other blogs I' ve done have moved up in PR pretty fast. It is also the easiest way to change content quickly. The blog, or rather a portion of it needs to display on the index page because I will have a separate URL pointer to this page.

Anyway, the site was built kind of piecemeal and while I am making big changes, I am looking at other ways to improve the look of the site.

1) Any suggestions very much appreciated as to what can be improved on the existing site.

2) Also, if anyone has any alternatives to my inline frame for a blog idea, I sure would like to look at alternatives. Basically, I' ve experimented with includes and nothing else works. I hate inline frames, though. The idea is to have a full blog page, an inline frame on the first page which pulls in the blog page and takes up about 20% of the real estate, and a button to jump to full page view. To give you a real rough idea, it might be something like you can see at www.la-legal.com/blogger.html but with more appropriate color schemes, etc.

Mmmm.... I guess the site is either:

1) So good that nobody can think of anything that could possibly improve things. Or,

2) So bad that nobody wants to dish out the criticism it deserves. :)

Or else so ignorant in that I' m still not sure what a " blog" is? I' ve seen many of them recently, but personally really don' t understand what they are and how they differ from other web sites. I' d appreciate more information as to them?

Also, please keep in mind that many members of the Forums are not here on weekends. I' m here simply because my body really hurts from today' s plumbing projects! :)

charpress,

I was there Friday and frankly I have no input as to " Blogs" , sorry. I did roam about the site and quite honestly have no suggestions on improvement, it looks good to me. As a " lawyers" site I don' t know what you might do to take the dryness out but you do have a ton of info. I will say I loved the Louisiana Humor section of your forums. Had me cracking up. " Boudreaux..." LOL.

Yep, dry. It' s hard to try and balance a " professional" look with some humor or interest. That' s one of the things I' m working on.

That and trying to simplify things to the extent complex material can be simplified.

As for blogs, that is what makes adding dynamic content easy. The Supreme Court Report page is a blog: www.la-legal.com/supreme

I' m just scratching my head trying to figure a good way to have a general law blog appear partially on the index page of the site with a jump to a full screen. [:j]

Thanks for the comment on humor. The main reason it was added was that I found a lot of people searching on " louisiana humor" or boudreaux jokes" so I added that as a blatant was to catch some Google searches.
