In an insane world.........

results from a search of the web would turn up the results expected.....

For those that want to listen.....

I expect pretty soon for links that are paid for to turn up in search engines, and only these links.

I expect for the providers of search engines to justify this with a common cause.....we provide the best results.....

It happens right now

just try ask jeeves

http://web.ask.com/web?q=web+design+rockingham+city&qsrc=1&ste=0

When a search engine provides as many paid for links, as it does free links it is no longer a search engine. 10 each in this case. It' s the equivalent of a yellow page phone book. This goes for pay for click also.

When I use a search engine to do a search of the web I expect it to search the web, not provide me with paid for adverts that do not pop up.

Before you ask, I do not run a search engine nor do I know how to make a profit from one.

As a consumer, I do know when I search the web I expect to see results not placed and paid for adverts. Smiles if thats the case, it' will not be long before I am asked to pay for a search of the web by people with long smiles confirming the veracity of my pay per click search with folded arms.

Soon people will be asked to pay to use a search engine, and the companies listed in that search will be asked to pay also. What worries me is that this will become acceptable.

look forward to hearing what you have to say.......

DA,

Over the next few years folk will try all types of options to try to glean money out of the internet. PPC and paid listings are currently the SOP (standard operating procedure).

I have found that creativity will migrate to the path of least resistance. If the S&P 5000 and Wall streeters have embraced PPC and paid listings, then the market has already shifted.

PPC excludes to many viable business that can' t afford to play. So that leaves a bunch of business with funds to spend. How many smart folk would you imagine are trying to figure out how to offer them an option?

Our job is to stay vigilant to the new strategies being developed and jump on them, like I did for PPC 3 years ago when the market thought it was a stupid idea and were dropping millions into banner ads.:)

To be honest I am baised. Looksucks :) closed down the chat room I met my wife in because of there new market position.

Because of this I have pondered the idea of PPC in search engines. Quite a bit. I think it is a short term answer. Your right the people that don' t want to pay won' t pay, and the people that can' t pay won' t be able to to pay. Thats why I think it' s short term.

I went searching the other night, and low and behold, step one of stupidity had started to unfold. A search engine, a major one ask peeves, had as many sponsored listings as it had search results.

It is at this point that, that the ever so large round table starts turning and search engines evolve into yellow pages. The next stage is when 99% of the listings are paid for. Now these search engines may be able to convince others that this is the way forward. Not me. As I said if this continues the owners of search engines will try to convince us that we need to pay to use a search engine. They will try but I can' t see it working.

The market will always work to fill holes or gaps in theory. That is why I can see SE' s trying to charge and thats also why I see it failing. However, chat rooms( and the people that use them) and other services( email, free websites, boards...) will be discarded while SEO' s tinker with their TLA' s.
