ranked ok in SEs, but what next? - 5/6/2003 9:35:19
Hi y' all My site seems to be indexed well, but I only average 500 visitors and about 1500 pageviews a day. That average has been steady for the last two months. I find it bizzare that it is so consistent. I would expect swings up and down and maybe a trend upward as more of my SEO kicks in (I' m paying Overture a lot). From those visitors, I average one sale a day (what' s that, a 1/2 percent conversion rate?) Can anyone explain to me why my stats aren' t growing, or even fluctuating? Any advice on " kicking it up a notch" ? Thanks in advance Just sign me puzzled[:j]

Hi Barry Thanks for the response and suggestion. I' m kinda proficient at MS software, so 600 products was actually kinda easy - uploads, downloads, messing with the access db. The hard part was taking the pictures and matching them to the products - that was time comsuming - I only have about 3000 more products to go . I' ve attempted stickiness - I put a message board there, I' ve got a " news letter" of sorts - hair trimming tip, winter beauty tips.. more to come. Behind the scenes, we' ve provided excellent customer service, free shipping. I' ve had a few repeat customers so I must be doing a little something right. I like your suggestion about asking women. I have been wanting to do a survey, but your question is the key question I' ve been looking for. I only have a staff of one (me ) so all this is just gonna take time. I appreciate your suggestion and if anyone else has any thoughts, I welcome those too.

My first impression was that you only sold 1 item... a hair dryer. You have many links that lood kind of busy. You may want to promote other items or categories on your front page. The hair dryer could lead to hair products etc... Maybe some of your visitors thought the same as I almost did? There are many site that have a lot of products. This one is one of my favorites - www.youcansave.com . They usually have more that 4 products on the front page, but their Mother' s day sales is taking up a row I think. Of course, you want to keep you page small.... Just my thoughts -

Good thoughts Joe. Yup, I need a simpler menu system - the one I have now just evolved on it' s own - I had nothing to do with it . Good suggestion. I' ll experiment with some heirarchy menus. I had tried to feature a several products on the home page, but it got to big to load. I also wanted visitors to see all the categories. Tried to balance things, but I have no skill, I' ll keep plugging (or hire Cooper to fix it ) But still unanswered... why such a consistent number of daily visitors?? It' s weird. Doesn' t everyone else' s visitor count fluctuate? I would expect to see 200 one day and 1000 the next, but not always 500,500,500 - It' s like summer in Arizona 98,98,98 Are they all like that, or is it just me?

Mike, How much of your visits are from Goto (overture)? I have have had really static responces from them. If 75% is from them, and you have a few keywords that produce them, then this may be one of the reasons. I would turn off the overture listings for a few days and see what happens. In an ideal world Overture should decrease in the percentage of visitors as repeats, viral, and traditional marketing kicks in. Worst case you can always get them on the tele and discuss it with them. I agree with MoJoJoJo, your menu is very, huh...... well you know. I could not find all of the newsletter, beauty tips, and hair triming tips. barry Note: I did find the tips and stuff but i thought it was a banner ad to another site. Barry
