DB Results w/o ASP or FP Extns - 5/7/2003 8:48:30
I have created a simple Access database which includes a few categories such as; name, location, phone, dept, etc. There are approx. 175 entries in the DB (employees). This is for our Intranet, which I' m building on our local file server. The server does not have FP Extns, nor do we want to install them. There must be a way to query the DB w/o ASP, right? It would help if the information in the DB was dynamic (in case some one' s phone # changes), but is not totally necessary. Is there a way to add the data to the page in HTML format and use drop down menus to search that way? In other words, I want a user to be able to search for a person by one of three drop down menus; name, location, or department. (Then display their subsequent information; department, phone, location, etc) I' m way out of my league when it comes to DB stuff. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Are you running IIS? You don' t need FrontPage to connect to an Access database, but you do need the Access driver. With IIS you can easily connect.

No, we are not running IIS on this server. The main reason we don' t want to install anything else, is b/c the hard drive only has 300MB or so free (for system files). The other partition is for our network shared drive (3GB or so free). However, if this is the only way to " access" the database, then we may have to reconsider. We do plan to upgrade our file server next year, and hard drive space will not be an issue, but until then it is.

no, actually it is accessed by file, not by http. I guess think of it as a local web.
