How in the world do I get the guestbook to work? I make another file called guestbook for the results to be stored in but nothing works.

One more thing. I never make a website with FrontPage, I always make individual pages and link them together myself. Could that be the problem and is that OK?

Front Page has a Guest Book Template that works quite well. I am currently using it on my web site.

Simply choose File, New Page, and the Task Pane appears and click Page Templates. Then choose the Guest Book Template. It' s easy.

Have looked at many others out on the web but did not like the advertising that came with them. Good Luck. :)

easiest way to make the guestbook component work is to create it while working on a server based web. That means working " live" .
quote:

2. Working on a “server-based web”. This means that you have a direct connection to a web server that has the FrontPage extensions set-up for your web. This is what people are talking about when they say editing the web “live”. Changes to the web take effect immediately upon saving.

To work on a web “live”. Go to File—Open Web… In the dialog box near the bottom is the line that says “Folder name: ” type your URL here, like this; http://www.nnnnnn.com, where nnnnn is your domain name. If the extensions are working then you get asked for user name and password
now add in a guestbook component. The file guestlog.htm will be created when the first entry is submitted.

Tripod also has a guestbook component that you can pop into a webpage but I' ve not used it. I think it' s in Site Add-ons???

After all that here is a link to a Tripod apge that has a working GB...and some more instructions http://fptester0.tripod.com/guestbook.htm

I must be doing something wrong because it doesn' t work for me. This is what I do. I open the guestbook template. I don' t even change anything, I just save it as guestbook. I then upload it to the server. I go to the page and when I submit the entry it says it can' t find the page. And the address in the address bar says: http://jorgiesplace.tripod.com/--WEB-BOT-- What' s up with this WEB-BOT thing? I see that in the HTML coding but why does it come up like that? Is there anything I have t change in the coding?
What is going on? Please help.

I just had this problem the other day. Assuming your host has Frontpage extensions theoreticall it should work fine. But as I found out (through this forum) is that what I uploaded isn' t what was on the server side. Check your template properties on the live site, and make sure your settings are set that the guestbook goes to a file and not a database. I had all the settings correct in Frontpage, but when I uploaded it for some reason it didn' t take.

I' m using 2003 beta 2
