Frontpage vrs Dreamweaver - 5/8/2003 20:11:59
hello, i currently have frontpage, and i was thinking of buying dreamweaver. what is the difference? who votes for fp, who votes for dreamweaver? who has dreamweaver? is it better? is it easier? frontpage seems.... boring to me. you can only choose from these boring themes. NOTE: I dont care about the cost just the features P.S. : does dreamweaver have a ' upload' feature?

Again? Do a search, this has been discussed/cussed a few times [:p] Just to get you started: quote:
does dreamweaver have a ' upload' feature? No, nor does Frontpage - Frontpage has it' s " publish" & FTP capability - DW has a built in FTP utility. Here' s a post from an earlier thread - I haven' t changed. quote:
GIL; I use (almost daily) FP, Dreamweaver, Net Objects, Homesite & Notepad - I would hate to give up any of them, but the one I would miss most would be Homesite. But to be honest, when I started developing web sites Notepad was the only one available. Along with VI on the server Frontpage: 2002 is a good tool (2000 was kind of buggy, 98 and earlier useless) that has allowed thousands of non-programmers to build decent, useable web sites with little or no training. Good for simple to semi-complex sites (really complex sites have been developed with FP, but a lot of extras are produced and added outside FP). Also great for Intranets running on a WIN environment and making use of the integration of other MS applications (Word, excel, etc.). A good place to start. Dreamweaver: Developed from the old Drumbeat editor. A more complex tool with a considerably higher learning curve. The integration of Cold Fusion & .JSP pages make it particularly good for large database driven sites. Doesn' t fall victim to the Microsoft proprietary gotchas. Any tool is only as good as the user - Some really great sites have been developed with FP & some really bad ones with DW. And the opposite is also true. I think a developer should use the one tool he/she finds the most comfortable and when he/she outgrows its capabilities, move on to a more sophisticated tool.
