RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! - 5/15/2003 10:07:28
What I don' t get is, I followed what gary said again, about deleting white space. Now, I hope that I did this correctly. I clicked in the header went to insert includes then to the header page. There on the header page I have a table sitting that is the exact size of the one on the page I was trying to insert this. click insert ok, you know the deal. Ok, now it is on the page, I click delete, the extra space in the table disappears, and I get all excited, prematurely of course. It didn' t update the rest of my pages! I hit refresh etc... nothing worked to install this " include" on the other pages that I wanted it included on. . So just to make sure that the includes were working I changed a letter in my navagation, lol, just so happens I had an error that needed fixing. That all updated on the other pages. So some of this is working, but the rest of it isn' t clicking into place!

Debbie, I made a simple mock up at here You can look at the source to see what I did. You can look at each page & source at each. Hope this helps. Erin

First just a quick warning for anyone going to that page - it initiated an install fo Internet Washer, without my permission. Zone Alarm stopped it - but just be careful! Your includes seem to be working fine there though.

Erin, saw the screen shot, but it isn' t different from the site? or am I missing something? duh? What I don' t understand is that I did the header the same as the footer and the navagation, BUT the header isn' t showing up in the rest of the pages, only in the one that I include it on. why? also it was added to the page that is up right now, but you can' t see the color on there. It was added.

Debbie, I had no clue what you were seeing so I ent what I was seeing. What did you name your top include? This way I can see if it is in source. Erin

RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! - 5/16/2003 12:09:42
Ok here is what is happening. This is so weird. On my computer I have tried to include the header page, which is just a table with blue color in it for now. Just to give me a feel for all of this. I would do things differently later. Now, When I go to the include folder to add it, it won' t add in. yet when you view the code, it says that it is in there. So load it up to the site that is above. Even though it is added in, it doesn' t show up in the code. so what I do is try to insert the include via working on the site from the web. Well it did go into the header, but.....only on 3 pages?! Erin and I have been going over this all morning. Feel free Erin to add your comments, please!

It is weird - real weird. I have suggested adding code in control panel - because that should fix it. I can copy basics & make it work on my machine & live - so I am perplexed. Not sure if related to hosting & code they add to site. PS - 1:10 PM Debbie, I think you have it now - blue header is showing now. Erin

Jens: Thanks sooo much for your information! I just now noticed it, forgive me not noticing it sooner! Anyhow, good thing that I didn' t or I wouldnt have kept trying to figure out what was happening. I knew that it was something that I was doing wrong, and that was why things weren' t going correctly! Anyhow, I know I' ll be corrected if I am wrong. But what I did was I created the pages one at a time with the tables on them, and then tried to do the includes on each one. When I should have been copying the done page which would be page 1, then copying the information that was on that one?, and making the new pages from that page. So, I' ll anxiously be awaiting to see if I have FINALLY FIGURED THIS OUT!! Gail roflol!!!!!!! That is definatly one thing that I wouldn' t want crawling on my head! Totally looks like a spider! LOL,LOL,LOL!!!!!!

RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! - 5/18/2003 10:53:23
Hej! Ummm I do not know. I am not a Frontpage expert as I said above. Saving the same page with different desired names or creating new pages and pasting the desired code in html view might do it. - I mean that I cannot see why not but Fronpage I found does funny things sometimes..... A thought: Can you not make sure that one page works and then save it as a template? Might that do it. Whatever you do you do still need to check that the path to the includes folder and that all and do mean ALL your table code is ended properly. I think that the missing </td> (if it is really missing) might be messing thing for you also. Mhaircaish told me about this the free software from this place: http://www.tafweb.com/ quite some time ago. I have used their software especially webspeed ever since whenever I am using Windows machines to write code, which I admit is quite rare as I work in a completely non-windows environment. I think you might like to download webspeed and the tagchecker as some versions of Frontpage were famous or maybe I mean notorious for sometimes " forgetting" to end elements correctly and that can give many problems in different browsers. http://www.tafweb.com/tagcheck.html it is worth getting for anyone I think. Glad you found the information. All of the sites are ones with good and gratis stuff. Good luck. Med venlig hilsen Jens Fuglsang Foreningen Bag Gorilla København Maj 18 2003

Erin: I' m still not sure if this is what I was supposed to do, but did notice that there is a folder for the new page which I named template. So confused, but think I have the basic approcah. Hopin that someone will come along and let me know if I am on the right track? grin. At least now when I update soemthing in the includes folder, all the pages update!

Hi Deb When you say all the pages update......which ones?? as the navigation column has no pages hyperlinked. I will assume your page is correct.......looks OK in the code.I have not got FP to copy & paste at the moment. Now this is where the " template " comes into it. Get ready & hang on !!! All the hard work has been done........Open your page (the one published) and " save as" FAQ.htm and save as again a second time as " about_us.htm. So now you have those extra pages in your web. Go into your include folder look for naviagtion.htm and hyperlink those 2 pages to the names (FAQ & About us) Go to page " about us" and throw in some content & do same for FAQ (other written stuff) Then view in the browser...............you should then see the beauty of the includes at work with just the content on your pages changing as you flick through. Add a graphic to your header and see it propigate throughout your site. That Angelfire sure throws in some extra code!!!!!!!!!!!
