Gary:
I was having sooo many problems with that one that I started over again. grin.

here is the site addy: http://southwoodnj.tripod.com

Now what I did here was just created the page2 as my template? and copied each page from that one, and the index actually updated. I don' t know what I was doing wrong in the other one. For some reason that one just wasn' t working out. Of course Jens found some code that wasnt correct in there, that could have been part of the problem.

So I looked at the code and seen all of the code that angel fire tossed in and was out of that one. lol.

On the one above, I have changed things several times in the includes folder and each time I open up the pages, the changes are in there!

The one on angel fire, I tried to edit it live on the site, and it just wouldn' t work out. Clueless as to why, but know that I have much more to learn in the code area. heavy heavy sigh.[&o]

Debbie,

At least it is working now. :-)

Why it was not working is still bugging me.[:@] Since it worked fine on our server - that stupid code of angelfire

I" m not giving up on it, I' m going to keep going at it when I get time to figure that one out.

It not only didn' t work on angel fire, but for some reason wasn' t working on my computer.

Maybe somehow that one was corrupted somehow? Who knows right? lol, maybe it just didn' t want to cooperate with me!

roflol!!

Either that or a child?[;)]

erinatkins -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 9:56:15)

Good point[:D][:j][:)]

Or male child[;)]

c1sissy -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 12:16:36)

here is an additional question on includes.

if you are handcoding a page that isn' t in front page, can you still use includes? If so, how would you go about that experience? lol. My mind sometimes doesn' t stop wondering things. lol

erinatkins -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 12:29:30)

There are Server Side Includes

http://www.bignosebird.com/ssi.shtml

c1sissy -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 12:37:13)

Yes, i saw that one, however, isn' t that for asp?

c1sissy -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 14:53:21)

[:o]What did I say? [;)]

Now, to me anything that is mentioned that is " server side" reminds me of asp. I know that I have much to learn, so help me out.

lol explain why I should

SSI *server side includes* was being used by web developers when Microsoft was still trying to figure out what the WWW was. And the " Big Nosed Bird" site was providing tutorials on it long before MS even had a http server...

" server side' just means the directive is executed on the server vs by the browser like Javascript...

Ah how wonderful for me! I know that I have finally arrived when the skating cat also quotes a site I suggest [:p][:p][:)][:D][:D]

Deb,

Go read that tutorial when you can make the time. But yes the frontpage includes imitate what server side include (SSI) does. Of course the nice thing about working with an SSI is that you don' t have to rely on your server having the Frontpage extensions installed.

(Also I think that Gil was having a little joke with you.)

Comparitively few hosting companies use Windows. Unix or Linux are more preferrred because they are stable, and much more secure.

Go to www.netcraft.com if you ever want to know what a particular site is running as it' s operating system.

Gil:
Thanks for the explaination. I appreciate it, and btw, I know that you were playing about. grin.

I don' t know much about any other system other then windows. Only been on a computer about 2+ years. And when we got our computer, I wasn' t even sure how to turn it on, log on etc.... So, I am still basically a babe in the woods on these things. But am learning things as I go.[;)]

Jesper:

Thanks for the link and I will check out the information on the SSI. I have been seeing this term a lot, so now I know what it is. grin.

One thing I have noticed is that not all hosts support SSI? Curious.

Gil -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 15:44:11)

Isn' t it cool that we can joke about and we know the other' s " style" well enough to know they are joking [:p] If I only knew my in-laws as well as I do the folks here[8D]

I doubt you' ll find a *nix host that doesn' t (except for the ' free' ones, they don' t count) - on a windoze server it' s a lot ore work and further compromises an already weak security, so yeah there are some windoze host that do not support it.

thanks for the answers gil, appreciate it greatly!

Gil -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 17:39:01)

Yes, Jesper I was having a ' small' * joke. I can' t say how long Big Nose Bird has been around - but I do know I have been sending people there to read the SSI tutorial for many years. IMHO, it' s the best on that subject on the WWW.

*I say small because it makes me ill to see Microsoft take a perfectly good thing like SSI and instead of swallowing their ego and adding support they have to re-invent the wheel and in the process add flat spots.

garry -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 18:09:07)

Hi Deb
Looks fine.............where is the Yeeeeehah !!!!!!

c1sissy -> RE: I HATE INCLUDES!!!!! (5/19/2003 18:22:55)

Now where is the smiley that shows a gorilla with his head nodding up and down in 100% emphatic agreement? [:)]
