FP Server Extensions set up on ISP server - 5/10/2003 19:07:00
I am looking to set up my own dedicated server through a friend (who is an ISP) but until now none of his sites use FP & associated extensions My questions (1) Do the extensiosn need to be loaded per domain or per server? (2) Are there any Microosft/3rd party costs involved? (3) The server is running NT and IIS, one of the options is to configure Server Extensions - do these refer to the FP SE ? (4) Are there any issues I shuld be aware of? Thanks Chris

(4) Are there any issues I should be aware of? who' s maintaining this server? If it' s you then you should be prepared to spend some time on updates, service paks, security analyzers, etc... (only problem is that to activate most updates, SP' s. etc, you have to reset the server, and when you do that all of the sites are down, so I hope they don' t require 5nines, also what happens when the server has an actual hardware issue, down again, and then the power goes out and ohno down again, and what database are you going to run, because sequel only costs 14,000 for 10 licenses, and each connection takes up two licenses, and if it' s really NT as in NT4 not W2k then M$ is going to drop all support for that clunker soon, you could also read this www.awebmasters.net and, I don' t know, you asked for thoughts, right...) and oh yeah, did you mention why you wanted to be an ISP???? save money, I hardly think so....
